Does Ephesians 3:9 Prove that Jesus is the CREATOR?

Now, church TRADITION teaches that Jesus is fully Almighty God Himself. And thus, to Trinitarian Christians, Jesus is the CREATOR of the entire universe in the eternity past. For you see, they “interpret” the Word in John 1:1 to be a divine PERSON, namely, the second person of a so-called Trinity Godhead. Therefore, they conclude that God the Father created all things by the Word, which they wrongly interpret as being God the Son in the eternity, the so-called second PERSON of a Trinity Godhead.

And they use Ephesians 3:9 along with John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:15-17, Revelation 3:14, and Revelation 4:11 to try to prove that Jesus is the Creator of the entire universe in the eternity past. So let us begin chapter 2 of this book called “Does John 1:1-3 Teach us that Jesus is the CREATOR?” by first reading Ephesians 3:9 out of it context. I will place the emphasis on the phrase that Trinitarian Christians focus upon. And then, I will make the same kind of comments that a Trinitarian Christians would make I do this in order to show you HOW they incorrectly interpret verses of Scripture OUT of their CONTEXT. And after that, we will read Ephesians 3:9 left in its context to learn the true sound Biblical meaning in the light of the whole word of Almighty God.

Ephesians 3:9.

“And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hid in God, who created ALL things by Jesus Christ:”

Now, Trinitarian Christians will emphasize and have you focus on the phrase “created ALL things by Jesus Christ”. And then, they will say that this verse proves that Jesus is the MEANS by which God created the entire universe in the eternity past, because this verse says that all things were created by Jesus Christ. 

And thus, to them, that proves that God must be a Trinity Godhead made up of three separate persons in ONE God. For in their mind they say, how else could Jesus do the mighty miracles recorded in the Bible if he was not Almighty God Himself in the flesh?

First of all, the one of the meanings of the English word “by” does indeed mean, “the MEANS by which something is accomplished. For example, we are save by faith. It is not actually faith that is the Savior, but rather, faith is the MEANS by which we receive salvation as the gift from God.

Secondly, the Greek word “dia” that is “translated” as the English word “by” has OTHER meanings. Here is how the concordance in E-Sword define the Greek word “dia”.

In composition it retains the same general import: – after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) . . . fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through (-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general import.

So then, through faith in Jesus Messiah, because of Jesus Messiah, and by reason of Jesus Messiah, God Himself created ALL. For you see, the English word “things” is NOT in the original Greek text. Here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines the Greek word “pas”.

Including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole: – all (manner of, means) alway (-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no (-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.

Please notice that the Greek word “pas” simply means ALL. In other words, it does not mean everything or all THINGS. So then, the English word “things” was ADDED by the translators. And, according to the CONTEXT, the adding of the word “thing confuses the meaning of the passage of Scripture. Let me explain what I mean as we read Ephesians 3:9 again, but with the emphasis on the CONTEXT.

Ephesians 3:9.

“And to make ALL [men] see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hid in God, who created (THE) ALL [things] by (Or THROUGH, because of, by reason of, and even in) Jesus Christ:”

Remember that the meaning of the Greek word “dia” ALSO means THROUGH Jesus the Messiah, because of Jesus the Messiah, by reason of Jesus the Messiah, and even created in Jesus the Messiah. And the context is speaking about the ALL of WHOSOEVER of the Gentiles who believe are created by Almighty God the Father in Jesus the Messiah. Even the context of withing the verse itself is speaking about ALL men seeing or understanding what the FELLOWSHIP of the mystery of the Messiah is all about. Let us back up a few verses and read Ephesians 3:3-5 so that you can see that verse 9 has nothing whatsoever to do with the creation of the entire universe in the eternity past. But rather, it has everything to do with God’s new creation of new creatures being created into the BODY of Jesus Christ, the fellowship of the church.

Ephesians 3:4-6.

“Whereby, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 

Verse 5.  Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, (Or the sons of the humans) as it is now revealed unto his holy Apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 

Verse 6.  That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:”

So then, clearly, the context is speaking about Almighty God the Father Himself creating THE ALL. And the ALL is speaking of all of the WHOSOEVER of ANY human who believes to be made NEW CREATURES created INTO the body of Jesus, the church. And thus, it is BECAUSE of the human Jesus obeying all the Will of his God and Father, even to die on the cross, that the ALL have been created and still are being created into the body of Messiah Jesus, the church.

Please go back a little further and read the broader context in chapter 2 of Ephesians so that you can see that the ALL who believe are the WORKMANSHIP of Yahweh, the Father, who creates us into Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8-10.

“For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 

Verse 9.  Not of works, lest any man should boast. 

Verse 10.  For WE are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.”

As you can plainly see, it is Almighty God the Father who is the Creator who creates the ALL who believe in Messiah Jesus to become God’s NEW CREATURES. Please read 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 so that you can see that Almighty God the Father is the Creator who creates the ALL who believe into the body of Messiah Jesus to become NEW CREATURES.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21.

“Therefore, if ANY man be in Christ, he is a NEW CREATURE: (Or he is a new CREATION of God in His Son, Jesus Christ) old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 

Verse 18.  And ALL things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, (Or more correctly, And THE ALL who are reconciled are of THE God, THE ONE who reconciled us to Himself THROUGH or BECAUSE of Messiah Jesus. Again, the English word things was ADDED by the translators. It is not in the original Greek text) and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. 

Verse 19.  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 

Verse 20.  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be you reconciled to God. 

Verse 21.  For He has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 

In other words, it was the God of His human Son, Jesus, who MADE the Son of MAN, Jesus, both Lord and Messiah AFTER the cross and resurrection. And God did that so THAT the ALL of WHOSOEVER of ANY human who believes in Jesus as the Lord and Savior might become a NEW CREATION created into the body of Christ, the church.

So then, we have now clearly seen that NEITHER John 1:1-3 NOR Ephesians 3:9 teaches us that Jesus is the Creator of the entire universe in the eternity past as Trinitarian Christians claim. So what about Colossians 1:1-17, Revelation 3:14, and Revelation 4:11? Do they prove that Jesus is the CREATOR of the entire universe in the eternity past a Triniarian Christians claim.
