What does Genesis 3:15 TRULY Mean?

In other words, what is the God INTENDED true sound Biblical meaning of Genesis 3:1-15, when that passage of Scripture is correctly translated, and also, correctly interpreted in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God?

Let us begin this Verse Study by reading the whole passage of Scripture with just a few comments that agree with the rest of God’s word. And then, we will take a CLOSER look at verse 14.

Genesis 3:1-15.

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, (We usually refer to animals with the pronoun “it”, and not as he or she, unless the animal is a pet. Plus, animals do not speak words to entice, lure, and deceive people to disobey God. But someone said to Eve to DECEIVE her) Yea, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 

Genesis 3:2. And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 

Genesis 3:3. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. 

Genesis 3:4. And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die: (And, in John 8:44, Jesus said that the Devil was a LIAR from the BEGINNING)

Genesis 3:5. For God knows that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (Satan is the god of this present world, according to 2 Corinthians 4:3,4. And the angels are called gods in Psalm 8:5)

Genesis 3:6. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be DESIRED to make one wise, (Notice that Eve did not lust after the fruit of the tree until that DESIRE was put in her mind by Satan, the Devil who DECEIVED her, according to 2 Corinthians 11:3, and Revelation 12:7-9. She could not have been drawn away by her OWN lust, because this was BEFORE man sinned. Therefore, the TEMPTATION came from a VOICE that she HEARD, either in her mind or audibly from the mouth of a literal serpent) she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 

Genesis 3:7. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (Now, they understood that they were literally naked, but the metaphor or the symbolic meaning of naked is SIN. In other words, the understood that disobeying God was EVIL. For you see, Revelation 3:18, Revelation 16:15, and many other verses of Scripture teach us that being NAKED means living in SIN) 

Genesis 3:8. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 

Genesis 3:9. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where are you? 

Genesis 3:10. And he said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 

Genesis 3:11. And He said, Who told told that you wast naked? (This verse teaches us that mankind received a CONSCIENCE to know good from evil or right from wrong, because of the sin of Adam and Eve) Have you eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded you that you should not eat? (This is one of many verses that teach us that God is NOT omniscient or all-knowing to know everything that happens, as church “tradition” claims. For you see, according to Jeremiah 19:4,5, it never entered God’s MIND that man would worship the angels)

Genesis 3:12. And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 

Genesis 3:13. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (In other words, Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent for deluding, seducing, or deceiving here to be lead astray and disobey God’s one commandment. But, the question is, was there a LITERAL serpent, as in, a real animal that could talk and have a conversation with Eve? Or did she hear words being spoken to her in her mind?)

Genesis 3:14. And the LORD God said unto the serpent, because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life: (Now, from the way this verse is TRANSLATED, it certainly appears that God is pronouncing a PUNISHMENT on a LITERAL serpent! And that is what church “tradition” will argue “tooth and nail” until the “cows come home” so to speak. These are figures of speech that symbolize ACTIONS and behavior.

But, if this verse is “translated” correctly, then that would mean that serpents or at least this one specific serpent used to have legs and feet to walk either on all four legs or walk upright on two legs having two arms. Otherwise, going on his belly would not be a punishment. We will take a CLOSER look at the meanings of the Hebrew words after we finish reading the last verse)

Genesis 3:15. And I will put ENMITY (Or I will LET hatred and hostility as one has for an enemy be) between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

In the Verse Study on Genesis 3:13, we learned that the Greek word “ophis” translated as “serpent” in the New Testament means an artful or cunning malicious PERSON. And we also learned from the parable of the Sower sowing the seed, the FIELD is a metaphor for the world, the GOOD seed sown by the Son of MAN, Jesus, are the children of righteousness, and the seed of the wicked one are the children of disobedience, which will burn to ashes in the lake of fire on the final Day of Judgment.

And we concluded that while the parable was a metaphor, the world is REAL, the angels are real, Jesus is real, the righteous children are real, the disobedient children are real, the Day of Judgment is real! So why then do Christadelphian Christians teach that the wicked one is NOT a REAL literal being who tempts people to sin?

We all agree that the Bible uses parables and other words that are figurative that have symbolic meanings. So let is read Genesis 3:14 with symbolic meanings being the God intended way to interpret the true sound Biblical meaning of the serpent.

Genesis 3:14.

“And the LORD God said unto the serpent, (Or Yahweh Elohim said unto the artful cunning malicious PERSON called Satan, the Devil that DECEIVES the WHOLE world, in Revelation 12:7-9. Again, NOT that Satan is a literal serpent. But rather, the works of a poisonous serpent being likened to the WORKS of the Devil) Because you (Speaking to the literal Devil) have done this, you are cursed above all cattle,(Or more correctly translated, you are EXCRICRATED concerning every dumb beastly thing you have done. The Hebrew word “translated” as cursed also means to extricate or to DENOUNCE) In other words, Yahweh is charging Lucifer as no longer being a consecrated anointed cherub because of his stupidity thinking that he could overtake God’s throne like a wild beast. Yahweh is saying, that was dumb act to deceive one third of my angels to wage a war against me, your Creator) and above every beast of the field; (Or more correctly translated, and because of everyone among your troops in the land or in the world. The Hebrew word translated as “beast” also means TROOPS, as in, the army of Satan’s angels. And the field is a metaphor for the WORLD) upon your belly shall you go, (Or concerning your what is in your belly you shall continue to walk in your corrupted ways. The Hebrew word translated as “upon” also means concerning) and dust shall you eat all the days of your life:”

Or dust shall be your MEAT at the end of all the days of your life. For you see, when we compare Scripture with Scripture, then we see a prophecy concerning the serpent saying that his MEAT will be DUST. In other words, Satan, the Devil, and the fallen angels will be turned to DUST or to ASHED in the lake of fire at the end of their days.

Isaiah 65:25.

“The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and DUST shall be the serpent’s MEAT. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, says the LORD.”

Also, the Apostle Paul teaches us in Philippians 3:18.19 that many walk after the ways of Satan whose god is their BELLY.

Philippians 3:18,19.

“(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 

Philippians 3:19. Whose end is destruction, [To be turned to DUST or ashes in the lake of fire] whose God is their BELLY, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)”

So then, the “god” or idol of Satan’s BELLY is to be LIKE Almighty God and be above or over all of the angels.

And like the MEAT of Jesus is to do the WILL of his God and Father, the will or the LUST of Satan MEAT is to do things his OWN CORRUPTED way to oppress the creatures of Yahweh. The thief comes not but to steal, kill, and DESTROY.

And thus, the MEAT that Satan, the Devil, will EAT at the end of his days or TIME allotted, is his DESTRUCTION to be turned to DUST at the end of all his days.

The phrase “all your days” refers to the TIME God SET or allotted for the final Day of Judgment. And when Satan and his angels are cast down to the ground, they will know that their TIME they have left will be SHORT.

Revelation 12:12.

“Therefore rejoice, you in the heavens, and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short TIME.”

Please understand that I am NOT saying that there was no literal snake or serpent in the Garden of Eden. But rather, I am saying that God may have never intended us to understand the REAL LITERAL BEING of the fallen angel Lucifer to be a literal serpent, as in, a literal animal that is a serpent.

So then, in conclusion of this Verse Study on Genesis 3:14, it may be that Lucifer is a literal Dragon with literal scales and a literal tail. Or in might be that the word dragon is also a metaphor. 

But being a metaphor does NOT mean that Satan, the Devil is NOT a REAL literal BEING who will be turned to LITERAL ashes in a LITERAL lake of fire on the LITERAL final Day of Judgment.

Now, the Christadelphian Christians, as well as, some other church denominations, such as the Roman Catholic Church, sincerely, but wrongly believe in the FALSE doctrine or original sin. And thus, they build their other man-made doctrines upon the false doctrine of every person being born with a so-called sinful NATURE.

Again, once Christians understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands. 

And that you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels. 

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become a Lord, a King, and a God, to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
