What Does Being MADE Sinners TRULY Mean?

The Christians who teach the doctrine of original sin, the doctrine that teaches that we are all born with a Sinful Nature, and the doctrine of Total Depravity, all use Romans 5:19 to try to support their doctrines. 

In other words, they “interpret” the phrase “many were made sinners” to mean that because of the sin of Adam ALL humans are BORN as SINNERS with a SINFUL NATURE.

But that is NOT what this verse of Scripture is teaching us. For you see, the CONTEXT in the very next verse tells what the Apostle Paul TRULY means by the phrase “many were made sinners”. So then, let us read verse 19 in its CONTEXT to learn its TRUE sound Biblical meaning. 

Romans 5:15-21.

“But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded unto many. 

Romans 5:16. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, (In other words, what we INHERITED because of Adam’s sin is a CONSCIENCE that condemns us when we sin) but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification. 

Romans 5:17. For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 

Romans 5:18. Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 

Romans 5:19. For as by one man’s disobedience MANY were made sinners, (Or classified or marked as sinners. Become the children of the devil) so by the obedience of one shall many be made RIGHTEOUS. (Reconciled back to God)

Romans 5:20. Moreover the LAW entered, THAT the OFFENSE might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: (In other words, according to Romans 7:7-13 and Romans 5:13, WITHOUT the LAW there is NO SIN. So then, God APPOINTED the LAW for man to know what God expects of us.

And thus, it is the LAW that MADE us SINNERS! It was NOT the sin of Adam that made us sinners. But rather, it is the KNOWLEDGE of good and evil that made us SINNERS)

Romans 5:21. That as sin has reigned unto death, even so might GRACE reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.” 

So then, being MADE sinners does NOT mean being FORCED to become sinners. Nor does it mean that we inherited a so-called sinful nature that CAUSES or COMPELS us to sin. And neither does it mean that God ordained us to be CONFORMED to be sinners.

For you see, the Greek word that is “TRANSLATED” as “MADE” also means “place down”, to designate, to convoy.

From G2596 and G2476; to place down (permanently), that is, (figuratively) to designate, constitute, convoy: – appoint, be, conduct, make, ordain, set.

In other words, MANY and NOT ALL people are placed in a category or group of people called SINNERS. Also known as the children of the devil. And this position or place of being designated as sinners is LOWER or DOWN from the place of GLORY that God intended for ALL humans. 

And thus, because of just ONE tiny little sin, which we ALL of committed at one time or another in our life, we have come SHORT of the GLORY of God.

And that is why God CONCLUDED ALL to be under the category of SIN, even His chosen people, the Jews. And God did that so THAT, or in order that, He can have MERCY on ALL without having RESPECT of persons.

Galatians 3:22.

“But the Scripture has CONCLUDED ALL under sin, THAT the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.”

So then, God allowed SIN and the TEMPTER of sin to ENTER into this present world from the the PREVIOUS age of the world. And again, God did that so THAT God could JUDGE the world BY that MAN whom He ORDAINED and raised from the dead.

Acts 17:29-31.

“Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. 

Acts 17:30. And the times of this ignorance God WICKED at; but NOW (Speaking of after the cross and resurrection) commands all men everywhere to REPENT:

Acts 17:31. Because He has appointed a day, in the which He will JUDGE the world in righteousness by THAT MAN whom He has ORDAINED; whereof He has given assurance unto all men, in that He has RAISED him from the DEAD.”

Now, some may argue that the Apostle Peter said that some people are like brute beast that are MADE to be DESTROYED. And they interpret 2 Peter 2:12 to mean that God ORDAINED certain specific people before the world began to be created for the sole purpose of DESTROYING them.

So be sure to read the next Verse Study on 2 Peter 2:12 to learn the TRUE sound Biblical meaning of that verse of Scripture in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.

So again, NO! Romans 5:19 does NOT prove that ANY human is BORN with a sinful NATURE. But rather, every human being LEARNS to walk in righteousness. And sadly, some people LEARN to corrupt their own minds and harden their own hearts to SIN against their conscience.

And the TRUTH of the matters is that every man has sinned at some point in the life, we all have FALLEN short of the glory of God BECAUSE we all have SINNED at one time or another in our life.

And it was Satan, the DEVIL who entices us to SIN.

Now sadly, Christadelphian Christians do NOT believe that Satan, the Devil, is a REAL literal BEING. And the Christadelphian Christians ALSO wrongly believe, as well as, some other church denominations, that God created EVIL and that Yahweh is the CAUSE of all of the EVIL in the world. 

Plus, Christadelphian Christians, as well as other church denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church, sincerely, but wrongly believe in the FALSE doctrine or original sin. And thus, they build their other man-made doctrines upon the false doctrine of every person being born with a so-called sinful NATURE.

Again, once Christians understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands. 

And that you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels. 

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become a Lord, a King, and a God, to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
