Does John 1:1-3 Teach us that Jesus is the CREATOR

In the book number one in this series called “John 1:1 Made SIMPLE!”, we learned that the beginning in John 1:1 is NOT the beginning in the eternity past when God created the universe and everything that exists. We also learned that John 1:1 b should have been more accurately translated as the SAYING was TOWARD the God, as opposed to the KJV translation, and the Word as WITH God. And then at the end of the last chapter, I proposed that some Christians might argue with Jesus being made to become a God under and subject to his God and say, what about John 1:2,3?

In other words, some Christians argue that John 1:1-3 proves to them that Jesus is the CREATOR! But in TRUTH, there is nothing in the context in John chapter 1 that is speaking about the creation of everything that exists in the eternity past. Yes, verse 10 might SEEM to be referring to the creation of the earth, but the Greek word that is translated as he made the “WORLD” means people. For you see, in the same verse says, and the “world” knew him not. And thus, the people in the world knew him not. Also, that understanding that John 1:1-3 teaches that Jesus is the Creator of the entire universe is only ASSUMED by the phrase, “In the BEGINNING” in John 1:1 a which I have already shown in book number one is ANOTHER beginning and not the beginning in the eternity past. 

Now, in book number three, which I have not yet written, I will prove to you from the Scriptures that the phrase “in the beginning” does not dogmatically mean in the very beginning in the eternity past. But for now, please know and understand that Paul used that same exact phrase in Philippians 4:15. And the Apostle Paul was NOT referring to the beginning in the eternity past when God created the universe.

 

Philippian 4:15. 

 

“Now you Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but you only.” 

 

And Jesus used a very similar phrase saying, “from the beginning” in John 8:25, when he told the Jews in verse 24 that if they did not believe his word saying, “I am he”, then they would die in their sins.

“I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you do not believe that I am he, you shall die in your sins. 

Verse 25.  Then said they unto him, Who are you? And Jesus said unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.”

 

Now, the beginning that Jesus referred to is the beginning of his ministry, or “in the beginning” of the gospel. So as you can plainly see straight from the Bible, the phrase “in the beginning” does not dogmatically mean in the very beginning in the eternity past when God created the universe.

What some Christians fail to see and understand is that there is MORE than just ONE creation. There is the creation of God in the eternity past, but there is ALSO God’s CREATION of His NEW CREATURES of righteousness. Please consider the following verses of Scripture. First, let us read a PROPHECY of God foretelling that He will create a PEOPLE.

 

Psalm 102:18.

  

“This shall be written for the generation to come: and the PEOPLE which SHALL be created shall praise the LORD.” 

 

And the BEGINNING that this prophecy began to be fulfilled began BECAUSE of the obedience of the human Son of God. You see, the gospel was preached only to the Jews at first. And the New Testament was not written at the time that John was writing the Gospel of John. In other words, the only Scriptures that the Jews had in the days of Jesus was the Old Testament. So to me, the Apostle John is using an ANALOGY of the word of PROPHECY in Genesis 1:3,4 being the word “LIGHT” and comparing that with John 1:1. To say this another way, John is explaining how God created Himself a God who JOINED Him on Hs throne to rule over the earth in the world to come by using the analogy of God creating the worlds by SEAKING them into existence.

Let me explain what I mean in a little more detail. The SAYING in Genesis 1:3,4 is the word “LIGHT” and the SAYING in John 1:1 is “God”, “and the Word was God”. I n other words, the Word in Genesis 1:3,4 was Light and Light came into existence. And the Word in John 1:1 c was God and a God came into existence to JOIN his God and Father on Yahweh’s throne. Is that not what actually happened? YES! That is exactly what actually happened! Was that not what was FULFILLED? YES! That is exactly what God fulfilled!

Let us look at a PROPHECY in Isaiah 9:6,7 where the NAME of the one prophesied in the Scriptures SHALL be called the Mighty El or the Mighty God.

 

Isaiah 9:6,7.

 

“For unto us a child is born, (Notice that the SAYING or the prophecy of God is that a CHILD would be born first. And THEN) unto us a son is given: (And is was the Son of MAN who God gave to die on the cross) and the government shall be upon his shoulder: (Now, mere common sense teaches us that if the INTERPRETATION that God gave His divine eternal Son as church TRADITION claims, then the government would have ALREADY been on his shoulders) and his NAME SHALL be called (Speaking of the NEW NAME that God gave to His human Son, Jesus, after the cross and resurrection) Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 

Verse 7.  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD (Or the zeal of Yahweh) of hosts will PERFORM this.”

 

So then, you can clearly see that Yahweh PERFORMED His word of PROPHECY to MAKE His human Son born of a woman to BECOME a Mighty God WHEN the government of this present world SHALL be laid upon his shoulders. And thus, during the world to come, ALL of mankind will bow down to the NAME of Jesus and call him Lord to the glory of Almighty God the Father, according to Philippians 2:8-11, which you can read on your own.

Now, that you know and understand that Yahweh MADE His human Son to become a God under and subject to his God and Father, let us read John 1:1-3 in that LIGHT or with that understanding. For you see, how could a human be the Creator of the entire universe? In other words, John 1:1-3 is talking about HOW the NEW CREATURES are made.

 

John 1:1-3.

 

“In the beginning was the Word, (Or more correctly, in a beginning or in another beginning was the SAYING or the word of prophecy) and the Word was with God, (Or more correctly, the SAYING or the word of prophecy was moving TOWARD the God to join God on His throne) and the Word was God. (Or more correctly, the SAYING or the word of PROPHECY was a God who shall rule FOR Yahweh in the NAME of Yahweh in the world to come)

Verse 2.  The same was in the beginning with God. (Again, the SAME, speaking of the SAYING or the word of prophecy was TOWARD the God to join his God on his Father’s throne for 1000 years during the world to come)

Verse 3.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

 

It is verse 3 that causes the confusion and the controversy among Christians. Trinitarian Christians INTERPRET John 1:3 to mean that Jesus CREATED everything that exists in the eternity past. And they do so because they have not been taught that the English word THINGS is NOT in the original Greek text. Let us read verse 3 with the Strong’s numbers so that you can see that there is NOT Greek word for the word “things” to be translated from. And thus, it was ADDED by the translators.

In other words, John 1:3 should be translated as follows.

 

John 1:3 translated more correctly.

 

“ALL G3956 were made by him; and without him was not ANY G1520 made that was made.”

 

So then, what, or more precisely, WHO were the ALL and the ANY that were MADE by him? It was the NEW CREATURES created by God THROUGH Jesus or BECAUSE of the obedience of Jesus who obey all that his God and Father instructed him to do. That is what the Greek word “dia” means. All were made THROUGH or BECAUSE of him and NOT by him. And without him not ANY was made that was made.

Let us read John 1:3 from the LITERAL translation so that you can see that the word ALL is referring to people who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

“ALL through same became and apart from same became not yet ONE which has become”

 

So then, to me, John 1:1-3 is speaking of  ALL of God’s NEW CREATURES who became new creatures through faith in Jesus being the Christ or the Messiah and the Son of the living God. And not ONE has become a new creature apart from Jesus dying on the cross and being raised from the dead by his God and Father.

Now, some Christians may argue and say that there are many other verses of Scripture that prove beyond any doubt that Jesus is the CREATOR. So in the following chapters we will take a CLOSER look at ALL of those verses of Scripture being LEFT in their context to learn the true sound Biblical meaning.
