Does Genesis 5:3 Mean that We are BORN as SINNERS?

Let us begin this Verse Study on Genesis 5:3 by reading it to refresh your memory. I mean that I did not remember what this verse said until I read it again to see what it actually says. And thus, when Christian writers give a Scripture reference as a support fro what they teach, then LOOK those verses up for yourself to see what they are ACTUALLY saying. 

Genesis 5:3.

“And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his OWN likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:”

Now let us read a couple of quotes from the website called Got Questions to see HOW the writers of that website INTERPRET Genesis 5:3. And then, we will see what the Bible ITSELF actually teaches us as being the TRUE sound Biblical meaning of Adam begetting children in his OWN IMAGE means in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.

Here are three quotes taken from two different articles on the Got Questions website. The emphasis is mine and please understand that I am not singling out and one particular ministry.

“The flesh-and-blood existence we lead on this earth is shaped by our sinful, corrupt nature.

The sin nature is universal in humanity. All of us have a sinful nature, and it affects every part of us. This is the doctrine of total depravity, and it is biblical.”

I highly disagree with the man-made doctrine of total depravity as being Biblical. In truth, it is blatantly NOT Biblical as you will soon see. Here is a quote from their article on Total Depravity.

“The total depravity of man is seen throughout the Bible. Man’s heart is “deceitful and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9). The Bible also teaches us that man is born dead in transgression and sin (Psalm 51:5, Psalm 58:3, Ephesians 2:1-5).”

Again, I highly disagree with the man-made teaching that all humans are BORN spiritual DEAD because of the original sin of Adam. I will explain why further on in this study.

Here is another quote from the first their first article called What is the Sin Nature?

“Where did the sin nature come from? Scripture says that God created humans good and without a sinful nature: “God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). 

However, Genesis 3 records the disobedience of Adam and Eve. By that one action, sin entered into their nature. They were immediately stricken with a sense of shame and unfitness, and they hid from God’s presence (Genesis 3:8). 

When they had children, Adam’s image and likeness was passed along to his offspring (Genesis 5:3). The sin nature manifested itself early in the genealogy: the very first child born to Adam and Eve, Cain, became the very first murderer (Genesis 4:8).

So then, the Christians that teach the doctrines called the doctrine of original sin, the doctrine of Total Depravity, and the BORN with a Sinful Nature doctrine, all use the SAME verses of Scripture.

In other words, the verses of Scriptures themselves do NOT teach ANY of the man-made doctrines. But rather, it is the INTERPRETATION that comes from seducing evil spirits that they READ INTO the Scriptures that teach the false man-made doctrines of devils, according to 1 Timothy 4:1,2.

I will explain what I mean by this after we finish reading two more quotes from their article on

“There is only one Person in the history of the world who did not have a sin nature: Jesus Christ. His virgin birth allowed Him to enter our world while bypassing the curse passed down from Adam.”

And they also teach that even after we are born-again, we STILL HAVE a SINFUL NATURE that REMAINS in us until the day we die or until Jesus returns.

“We don’t lose our sin nature once we receive Christ. The Bible says that sin remains in us and that a struggle with that old nature will continue as long as we are in this world. Paul bemoaned his own personal struggle in Romans 7:15–25.” 

So then, according to Calvinism, Reformed Theology, Grace Alone Christians, and Christadelphian Christians, all humans are BORN with a SINFUL NATURE.

Now, all of these groups of Christians do not agree on what being born with a sinful NATURE means. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that we are all BORN with the STAIN of sin, which is called the doctrine of Original Sin. And thus, that had to invent another false doctrine of baptizing BABIES. And later, they had to invent three more false doctrines to try to support their false doctrine of Original Sin.

In other words, when non-Catholics were worried about their babies who die, the Roman Catholic Church invented that doctrine called Limbo, a place like purgatory, but only for babies who were not baptized.

Then, when asked about Jesus, the Catholic Church taught that because Jesus and no earthly Father, Jesus did not inherit the stain of Adam’s sin.

Then when Catholics ask about Mary, the Catholic Church invented the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. I guess Catholics did not thing to ask, “What about the PARENTS of the Virgin Mary?” Did not they inherit the so-called stain of original sin?

The TRUTH of the matter is that NO human inherited a so-called SINFUL NATURE or the stain of the sin of Adam.

The WHOLE word of God clearly teaches us that each person will be judged by their OWN sin and NOT by the sin of the fathers.

Deuteronomy 24:16.  

“The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his OWN sin.”

Ezekiel 18:20-22.

“The soul that SINS, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. (In other words, those who WALK in righteousness will be judged by their righteousness. And those who WALK after the prince of the air to obey his wicked works will be judge by the NATURE that he or she CHOSE to walk in)

Ezekiel 18:21. But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 

Ezekiel 18:22. All his transgressions that he has committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he has done he shall live.”

I will explain the verses like Ecclesiastes 7:20, Jeremiah 17:9, Isaiah 64:6, Psalm 51:5, and Psalm 58:3 in other Verse Studies. But for now, please know and understand that verses of Scripture like Exodus 34:7 is only PART of what the WHOLE word of Almighty God teaches. And thus, we must interpret Exodus 34:7 n the LIGHT of Deuteronomy 24:16 and Ezekiel 18:20-22, which we just read.

Exodus 34:7.

“Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”

Now, some Christians wrongly interpret this verse to mean that a so-called SINFUL NATURE is passed down from generation to generation.

But the is NOT what this verse is truly saying when it is correctly interpreted in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God. And in Exodus 20:5,6 we see that it is ONLY the children that HATE Yahweh. And it is only the children that commit the same sin that snared their fathers, that will visit them who are GUILTY of committing that same sin.

Also, we all know and understand that the Old Testament is filled with PROPHECIES. And both Exodus 20:7 and Exodus 34:7 is a prophecy concerning the children of Israel during the THIRD and the FOURTH generation of the “children of Israel”. 

The FIRST generation of the children of Israel was children of the twelve tribes of Israel to the time of captivity in the land of Egypt. The SECOND generation of the children of Israel was the twelve tribes of Israel from the Exodus to the cross and resurrection of Jesus. The THIRD generation of the children of Israel from the cross and resurrection to the return of Jesus. And the FOURTH and final generation of the children of israel will be during the 1000-year reign of Jesus in the world to come.

So then, these verses have nothing to do with any so-called sinful nature being passed down from generation to generation.

Now, it it were true that Genesis 5:3 means that Adam passed his SIN or even just a NATURE to sin to his children, then that SIN and or just a sinful NATURE was ALSO passed on to Jesus. For you see, according to the genealogy in Luke 3:23-38, Jesus is a descendant of Adam.

Luke 3:23,38.

“Luke 3:23. And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,…

…Luke 3:38. Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.”

Also, in Acts 17:23-31 we read that God will judge the world by the MAN whom He ordained and raised from the DEAD. And the CONTEXT of verse 31 clearly teaches us that Almighty God has made ALL nations of ONE BLOOD and we are ALL the OFFSPRING of God.

Acts 17:26-31.

“And has made of ONE BLOOD ALL nations of MEN for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation. 

Acts 17:27. That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He is not far from every one of us: 

Acts 17:28. For in Him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring. 

Acts 17:29. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

Acts 17:30. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent: 

Acts 17:31. Because He has appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that MAN (An OFFSPRING of God made of the ONE BLOOD of Adam) whom He has ordained; whereof He has given assurance unto all men, in that He has raised him from the dead.”

So then, some Christians might CLAIM that Jesus being born of a Virgin allowed Jesus to passed inheriting a so-called SINFUL NATURE, but they have no Scripture to back up their CLAIM.

But, on the other side of this controversy, there is one verse that says Jesus was made in the likeness of SINFUL FLESH.

Romans 8:3.

“For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of SINFUL FLESH, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:”

Be sure to read the Verse Study on Psalm 58:3 to learn how we ACQUIRED or came to be having more of a tendency to WALK in a sinful NATURE. And please know and understand that I and NOT teaching that ANY human inherited a so-called SINFUL NATURE. 

But rather, I am saying that if the INTERPRETATION of Genesis 5:3 that CLAIMS that Adam passed a SINFUL NATURE on to his children is true, then that would mean that Jesus ALSO inherited a sinful nature as well. But that interpretation is NOT true!

So, NO! No human is BORN with a sinful NATURE, but rather, we LEARN to corrupt our own minds and harden our own hearts to SIN against of conscience to FALL short of the glory of God BECAUSE we all have SINNED at one time or another in our life.

And it was Satan, the DEVIL who entices us to SIN.

Now sadly, Christadelphian Christians do NOT believe that Satan, the Devil, is a REAL literal BEING. And the Christadelphian Christians ALSO wrongly believe, as well as, some other church denominations, that God created EVIL and that Yahweh is the CAUSE of all of the EVIL in the world. 

Plus, Christadelphian Christians, as well as other church denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church, sincerely, but wrongly believe in the FALSE doctrine or original sin. And thus, they build their other man-made doctrines upon the false doctrine of every person being born with a so-called sinful NATURE.

Again, once Christians understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands. 

And that you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels. 

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become a Lord, a King, and a God, to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
