What Does Hebrews 1:7 TRULY Mean?

Let us begin this Verse Study by reading Hebrew 1:7 in some context. I will add some comments within the Scriptures to explain some background so that you can see the BIG PICTURE, so to speak, for why God created man and the Son of MAN in the first place. 

The words that I highlight in orange refer to Almighty God the Father. The words in yellow refer to the HUMAN Son of God before the cross and resurrection. The words in green refer the angels and also to incorrectly translated words. And the words in blue refer to the glorified Son of MAN, Jesus, AFTER the cross and resurrection.

Keep in mind that there were not verse numbers or chapters in the original Greek text. So read these two chapters together as one thought.

Hebrews 1:1-14 through Hebrews 2:1-10.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, (Speaking of the Old Testament times, God spoke through His prophets. And at times, God’s angels also spoke to people in the Old Testament. But NOW God)

Hebrews 1:2. Has in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He has appointed HEIR of ALL things, (In other words, God did NOT speak to the father in the Old Testament as some Christians CLAIM. But NOW, during the ministry of God’s HUMAN Son, God has spoken to us by way of the Son of MAN, Jesus, whom God appointed to INHERIT the ALL who believe) by (Or more correctly translated, FOR) whom ALSO He made the worlds; (Speaking of this present world, the world to come, and the new heaven and the new earth in the age of eternity. God restored or recreated the surface of the earth in Genesis to be habitable once again FOR the humans. Of which, Jesus is the Son of the HUMANS. That is what the phrase, Son of MAN means)

Hebrews 1:3. Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, (Which the Son of MAN came into being in the FORM of God AFTER the cross and resurrection, according to the CONTEXT and many other passages of Scripture such as Acts 2:36) and upholding ALL things by the word of His power, when he had by himself purged our sins, SAT down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 

Hebrews 1:4. Being MADE so much better than the angels, as he has by INHERITANCE OBTAINED a more excellent NAME than they. (So then, we have FOUR subjects under discussion, Almighty God who is identified as being the Father in verses 8,9. 

Then we have the HUMAN Son of God and also the GLORIFIED Son of God AFTER the cross and resurrection. 

Then we have the angelic beings, both the good and fallen angels. 

And then, we have the ALL who BELIEVE to become NEW creatures created by God the Father INTO the body of His Son, the FIRSTBORN of the CHURCH of the FIRSTBORN. The word “THINGS” is NOT in the original Greek text)

Hebrews 1:5. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, You are My Son, THIS DAY have I BEGOTTEN you? (Which means that Almighty God GENERATED or more precisely, God REGENERATED His HUMAN Son from the DEAD to NOW become His GLORIFIED eternal Son who would JOIN his God and Father to be SEATED BESIDE the Father on His throne) And again, (Or again in another prophecy, God also said) I WILL be to him a Father, and he SHALL be to me a Son? (In other words, though he was a Son, the MANIFESTATION of the completed Son to be made PERFECT did not happen until AFTER the cross and resurrection. The main point right now is that the Son of God was NOT an ANGEL.

For you see, God did NOT say at any time to ANY of His angels to be SEATED at His right hand of His throne. But to the Son of MAN He said, I have BEGOTTEN you THIS DAY to be may Son forever)

Hebrews 1:6. And again, when He brings in the FIRST begotten into the world, (Speaking of the RETURN of the now gloried Son of MAN to reign over the earth in place of Satan, the god of this present world or present AGE) He said, And let all the angels of God worship him. (And every knee will bow at the NAME and confess that Jesus is Lord to the GLORY of Almighty God the Father, according to Philippians 2:8-11)

Hebrews 1:7. And of the angels (Speaking of only the FALLEN angels) He says, Who makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire. (I will explain WHY I say this further on in this Verse Study. But for now, just briefly, this verse is speaking of the FALLEN angels, Satan the Devil and his angels for who God prepared the lake of fire to DESTROY them. This will all make perfect sense that agrees with the WHOLE word of God as you continue reading this Verse Study)

Hebrews 1:8. But unto the Son He says, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: (Or more correctly translated, you throne is from and AGE to an AGE) a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. (This is COMPARING the Millennial reign of Jesus to the reign of Lucifer in the previous age of reigning over the earth and his reign as Satan, the god of this present AGE of the earth. Then God will say to the GOOD angels, which god do you want to rule over you?)

Hebrews 1:9. You (My human Son before the cross and resurrection, you) have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; THEREFORE (Or for this very reason of you loving My way of righteousness to flee from and resist evil) God, even your God, has ANOINTED you with the oil of gladness above your fellows. (Or to be above your brothers, the humans, the ALL of the whosoever who BELIEVE and endure unto the end to be saved)

Hebrews 1:10. And, You, Lord, (Referring back to Almighty God the Father) in the beginning have laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Your hands: (Again, speaking of the Creator, Almighty God the Father, according to the CONTEXT in Hebrews 2:5, which is what the writer of the Book of Hebrews is speaking about, the JUDGMENT of the fallen angels and WHO Yahweh made to become the God over the whole earth for 1000 years during the age of the earth to come)

Hebrews 1:11. They (Speaking of the heavens AND the earth. The heavens meaning just the FALLEN angel and the surface of the earth and all EVIL) shall perish; but You remain; and they all shall wax old as does a garment; (Speaking of just the earth itself and NOT to fallen angels and the unsaved humans who do NOT repent and who will not allow Jesus to be their King and Lord)

Hebrews 1:12. And as a vesture shall You fold them up, and they shall be changed: (Again, speaking of the literal earth and not the fallen angels and the humans who reject God and His Son, Jesus) but You are the same, and Your years shall not fail. 

Hebrews 1:13. But to which of the angels said He at any time, Sit on my right hand, UNTIL I make your enemies your footstool? (Again, this a rhetorical question, to which the answer is Yahweh never said to ANY of the angelic beings at any time to come and be SEATED at His right hand on His throne.

For you see, in the Old Testament times Yahweh never SHARED His glory with ANYONE. And that is any reason for why there was no so-called pre-existing God the Son who was supposedly WITH God at His side and God created all thighs through His Son. That is a man-made theory that CONTRADICTS many verses of Scripture. 

The TRUTH of the matter is that Yahweh prophesied that He would do NEW THINGS and that He would share His GLORY with none other than His ELECT, according to Isaiah 42:1-10. And, according to John 17:22, the SAME GLORY that God GAVE to His humans Son, Jesus, Jesus promised to give to us who believe, the ELECT of God also. 

So then, the SAME promises given to the Messiah are given to us als well, with the one exception that Jesus is HEAD over us and God is HEAD over Jesus, according to 1 Corinthians 11:3)

Hebrews 1:14. Are they not all (Speaking of both, the fallen angels and the good angels) ministering spirits,(During the previous age of the earth BEFORE one third of the angels rebelled and waged a literal WAR against Yahweh and the angels who remained faithful to Yahweh. And thus, only the good angels are) sent forth to minister for them who shall be HEIRS of salvation?

Hebrews 2:1. THEREFORE, (Seeing that the fallen angel will be made a BLAZE of fire on the final Day of Judgment) we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. (And believe another gospel or no gospel at all)

Hebrews 2:2. For if the word spoken by (Or more correctly translated, because if the word spoken to the) angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; 

Hebrews 2:3. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 

Hebrews 2:4. God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to His own will? 

Hebrews 2:5. FOR (Or BECAUSE) unto the angels has He NOT put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. (But rather, God has PROMOTED man and the Son of MAN to be Lords and Kings over the world to come, speaking of the SAINTS or the Holy Ones who overcome the ENEMY. Of which, Jesus is the FIRST overcomer and the FIRSTFRUIT unto God, according to 1 Corinthians 15:20, and Psalm 89:27, plus many more passages of Scripture)

Hebrews 2:6. But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is MAN, that You are mindful of him? or the Son of MAN, that You visit him? (Speaking of visiting the Son of MAN, Jesus, morning after morning teaching him the Scriptures, according to Isaiah 50:4-11)

Hebrews 2:7. You made him (Speaking of Yahweh creating both man and the Son of Man, Jesus) a little LOWER than the angels; You CROWNED him with GLORY and honor, (AFTER the cross and resurrection, according to John 7:37-39, Acts 2:36, Romans 1:3,4 and many other verses of Scripture) and did SET him over the works of YOUR hands: 

Hebrews 2:8. You have put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But NOW, we see NOT YET all things put under him. 

Hebrews 2:9. But WE see Jesus, (Or this is how the church in the FIRST century saw and understood Jesus to be) who was MADE a little LOWER than the angels for the suffering of death, CROWNED with glory and honor; (After the cross and resurrection to OBTAIN a more excellent NAME than the angel by INHERITING that NEW NAME from his God and Father who CREATED His Son for His GLORY to STILL the ENEMIES, according to Psalm 8:1-6) that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 

Hebrews 2:10. For it became Him, for whom are ALL things, and by whom are ALL things, in bringing MANY sons unto GLORY, to make the CAPTAIN of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”

Now, if a so-called God the Son BECAME the Son of MAN. Jesus, then that God the Son was NOT PERFECT, according to Hebrews 2:10.

So, NO! To me, there was no so-called pre-existing God the Son on the eternity past who came down from heaven and was incarnated or manifested to become flesh as church TRADITION dogmatically demands.

Hebrews 1:1,2 teaches us the God did NOT speak to the fathers in the Old Testament by His Son. Therefore, every single verse of Scripture in the Old Testament that is “INTERPRETED” to mean that it is God the Son come down from heaven as as angel, are simply PERSONAL man-made interpretations.

But the main point of this particular Verse Study is to show the TRUE sound Biblical meaning of Hebrews 1:7.

God made SOME of His angels “disembodied” spirits when God CUT DOWN the heavens and the earth in Genesis 1:1 and the earth BECAME void and without form with darkness covering the deep in verse 2.

In other words, some of the fallen angels DIED and were made to become spirits without mortal bodies. The other fallen angels became FUGITIVES of God and they were BOUND to the atmosphere of the earth. I have other studies linked below giving more detail on the WAR and WHY God created humans in the first place.

So then, to keep this Verse Study as short as I can, I will only quote another verse or two. But before I do that, I want you to know and understand that there are two Greek words in Hebrew 1:7 that were NOT translated. So here is Hebrews 1:y with those two Greek words translated.

Hebrews 1:7 correctly translated.

“And TOWARD THE the angels He said, Who makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a BLAZE of fire.”

So then, first of all, God is ONLY talking about a SPECIFIC group of angels. Also. the Greek word “pros” the SAME Greek word in John 1:1 b that is wrongly translated a WITH God but should have been translated as the SAYING was TOWARD THE God.

For you see, this Greek word “pros” means direction towards the FALLEN angels being MADE spirits and a BLAZE of fire on the final Day of Judgment in the lake of fire to be consumed to ashes.

Ezekiel 28:14-17.

“You are the ANOINTED cherub that covers; and I have SET you so: (This is referring to God anointing the angel called Lucifer in Isaiah 14:12-14 to be SET as a God over the earth during a previous AGE of the earth. And thus, Lucifer was once a good angel that was made to become and Elohim or a mighty ruler under and subject to his Creator Yahweh) you were upon the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. (I believe that this refers to Lucifer being able to travel from galaxy to galaxy, but his throne was over the earth only. And he was lifted with pride to try to seize by FORCE to have equality with God. And that is something the Son of MAN, Jesus, never even considered thinking to be equal with his God and Father) 

Ezekiel 28:15. You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, TILL iniquity was found in you. (Here we see Yahweh reminding Lucifer that He created him perfect. But what we do not see in this particular passage of Scripture is Lucifer and the fallen angels BLAMING or blaspheming God’s NAME fro creating them flawed. So then, the fallen angels said something to this affect, me and the other angels waging a war against you must be your fault Yahweh because you are the Creator. And Yahweh answered, I created you perfect, and thus, you corrupted yourself) 

Ezekiel 28:16. By the multitude of your merchandise, they have filled the midst of you with violence, and you have sinned: therefore, I will cast you as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. (To me, this means that Satan and the fallen angels can no longer travel the universe and they are fugitives bound to the earth having the atmosphere as the line that they are forbidden to cross. And they think that they are hiding from God)

Ezekiel 28:17. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you. (The casting of Satan and his angels to the ground is still yet future, but very close at hand. This casting to the ground will be 42 months or 1260 days before the coming of Jesus, according to Revelation 12:7-17)

Ezekiel 28:18. You have defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your traffic; therefore, will I bring forth a FIRE from the midst of you, it (That BLAZE of FIRE) shall devour you, and I will bring you to ASHES upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold you.”

Now, while the lake of fire was only prepared for Satan, the Devil and his angels, according to Isaiah 5:14, Hell has ENLARGED herself to include FALLEN man, as in, the humans who REJECT the salvation of God.

Matthew 25:41. 

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”

Again, once Christians understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands. 

And that you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels. 

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become a Lord, a King, and a God, to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
