What Does Our OWN Lust TRULY Mean?

Let us begin this Verse Study by reading a quote from a Christadelphian website. To save space and distractions from going off on “rabbit trails” so to speak, I will only quote the parts that pertain to the so-called “real” devil being our own hearts and minds.

“There is no doubt then where we must look for the great enemy of God: it is in our own hearts and minds. So James tells us where we must look for the source of our temptations to do wrong. 

Are we led astray by some supernatural spirit whispering in our ear? Not at all; for, he says,

“Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire”.

So our own “desire” is the origin of our temptations…

…Have we to fear a devil, then?

Most surely we have, but not the devil of popular belief. Our devil is inside ourselves, in our own hearts and minds.”

Now, here is the ERROR of this “interpretation of James 1:14. 

As true born-again Christians, Almighty God has given us NEW HEARTS.

Ezekiel 36:26,27.

“A NEW HEART also will I give you, and a NEW SPIRIT will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 

Ezekiel 36:27. And I will put My spirit within you, and CAUSE you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.”

So then, our heart and our spirit are NOT the devil within as the Christadelphian Christians wrongly teach.

God has created us in Jesus Christ as NEW CREATURES.

2 Corinthians 5:17.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW CREATURE: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 

God has given us a NEW SPIRIT.

Ezekiel 11:10,20.

“And I will give them one heart, and I will put a NEW SPIRIT within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: 

Ezekiel 11:20. That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.”

God has given us a SOUND MIND.

2 Timothy 1:7.

“For God has NOT given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND. 

And we have the MIND of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:16.  

“For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the MIND of Christ.”

So then, either the INTERPRETATION made by the Christadelphian Christians or James 1:14 is WRONG, or God gave us a heart of Satan, the Devil!

And I do not believe that God gave us a heart, spirit, and mind to LUST after EVIL.

Therefore, James 1:14 must mean something else by the phrase “when he is drawn away of his OWN lust, and enticed”

Here is the SOUND Biblical God INTENDED meaning of James 1:14.

Plain and SIMPLE, every person does not have the SAME desires. For example, I could never be TEMPTED to drink beer, because, to me, it tastes and smells disgusting. But another person’s OWN lust is drinking beer.

Not that drinking beer is a sin, but if one lives in a lifestyle of getting DRUNK, then they are living in sin, according to Galatians 5:21.

Galatians 5:21.

“Envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

So then, HOW did we all come to have our OWN particulars things that our flesh desires and wants to lust after WHEN we are ENTICED. And WHO is the one who entices us to be TEMPTED?

If you said Satan, the Devil, you have CORRECTLY answered the question. For you see, when Judas was tempted to betray Jesus, our Lord and Savior himself said that it was the devil who PUT that temptation into his heart.

John 13:2.

“And supper being ended, the devil having now PUT INTO the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him.”

And the Apostle Peter said that it was Satan who filled the heart of Ananias to lie to the Holy Spirit.

Acts 5:3.

“But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?”

Now, seeing that God can prick the heart of people to do what is right and also convict them of sin when they sin, then what is it so hard for you, as a Christadelphian Christian, to believe that Satan can speak to your mind and entice you to be tempted to sin?

Jesus said that we would LISTEN to his voice and NOT follow the VOICE of strangers. And in that same context, Jesus is speaking about the THIEF that comes not but for the steal, kill, and destroy, AKA, Satan, the Devil.

In Mark 1:12, we read the Jesus was DRIVEN by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted.

And in Luke 8:29, we read about a man who was delivered of an unclean spirit where that man before he was delivered was DRIVEN by the devil into the wilderness to cut himself. And he was certainly NOT driven by SIN into the wilderness.

Luke 8:29-34.

 “For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he broke the bands and was DRIVEN of the devil into the wilderness.

Luke 8:30. And Jesus asked him, (The unclean spirit) saying, What is your name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 

Luke 8:31. And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. 

Luke 8:32. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. 

Luke 8:33. Then went the devils out of the man and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake and were choked.”

Evil Spirits, devils, and demons are REAL BEINGS and so is the prince of the devils a REAL BEING, the Dragon, that old Serpent CALLED the Devil and Satan.

Matthew 9:32-34.

“As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. 

Matthew 9:33. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. 

Matthew 9:34. But the Pharisees said, He casts out devils through the prince of the devils.”

The truth of the matter is that no true Christian TEMPTS themselves. At least not knowingly and deliberately. But rather, the NEW HEART that God gives to us DESIRES to not be tempted and we crucify our flesh daily. And once the Devil knows that we will NOT allow ourselves to give into his tempting us, then for the most part, the Devil LEAVES off tempting us for long seasons at a time.

Now, the Christadelphian Christians, as well as, some other church denominations, such as the Roman Catholic Church, sincerely, but wrongly believe in the FALSE doctrine or original sin. And thus, they build their other man-made doctrines upon the false doctrine of every person being born with a so-called sinful NATURE.

Again, once Christians understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands. 

And that you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels. 

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become a Lord, a King, and a God, to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
