Jeremiah 17:9

It is the Heart of the WICKED That is Deceitful!

The CONTEXT of Jeremiah teaches us that it is the heart of the WICKED that is desperately wicked and deceitful.

Jeremiah 17:5-10.

“Thus says the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose HEART DEPARTS from the LORD. 

Jeremiah 17:6. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. 

Jeremiah 17:7. Blessed is the man that TRUSTS in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 

Jeremiah 17:8. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. 

Jeremiah 17:9. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Whose heart is Yahweh talking about here is verse 9? It it the heart of EVERY single human being as some Christians CLAIM that Jeremiah 17:9 means? 

Or is it ONLY the heart of those who DEPART from Yahweh? 

What would be the point of Yahweh SEARCHING the heart of every man in the next verse, if the heart of EVERY man is WICKED?)

Jeremiah 17:10. I the LORD SEARCH the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” 

Now, in truth, there is a more correct translation of Jeremiah 17:9 that should be considered.

Jeremiah 17:9 more correctly translated.

“The heart is POLLUTED by REASON of whatsoever or whosoever, and desperately SICK: who can know it?”

In other words, who can know for sure what is in the HEART of another person? Do you do things that you did not MEAN to do? We can only look upon the OUTWARD appearance of others, but God looks upon the HEART.

1 Samuel 16:7.  

“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the HEART.” 

According to Acts 17:30, from Adam to the cross and resurrection, God WINKED at the ignorance of those worshiping false gods. But now, God is calling every man to REPENT. And to truly repent is to cast off the old and put on the new, as in, the New Covenant.

Ezekiel 18:31. 

“Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby you have transgressed; and make you a NEW HEART and a NEW SPIRIT: for why will you die, O house of Israel?”

Ezekiel 36:26.  

“A NEW HEART also will I give you, and a NEW SPIRIT will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.”

In other words, God removes the stoney hardened heart and gives us a new heart that is soft so that He can CONFORM us into the IMAGE of Jesus.

And now, we who are in Jesus are God’s new creation of RIGHTEOUS people, according to 2 Corinthians 5:17. We have a NEW HEART and a NEW SPIRIT, but our MIND still remembers the pleasures of the flesh. So then, the warring between the inner man of the heart and the ottoman of the flesh has NOTHING whatsoever to do with a so-called SINFUL NATURE that we supposedly inherited from Adam.

But rather, it has to do with the “memories” of the pleasures of sin in our MIND. And thus, we need to RENEW our minds.

Romans 12:1,2.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 

Romans 12:2. And be not CONFORMED to this world: but be you transformed by the RENEWING of your MIND, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

But yet, some Christians that teach the so-called inherited sinful nature, also wrongly teach that Christians never lose their sinful NATURE. Here is a quote from one of their websites.

“We don’t lose our sin nature once we receive Christ. The Bible says that sin remains in us and that a struggle with that old nature will continue as long as we are in this world. Paul bemoaned his own personal struggle in Romans 7:15–25. But we have help in the battle—divine help.”

So, NO! Psalm 51:5 does NOT prove that ANY human is BORN with a sinful NATURE. But rather, every human being LEARNS to walk in righteousness. And sadly, some people LEARN to corrupt their own minds and harden their own hearts to SIN against their conscience.

And the TRUTH of the matters is that every man has sinned at some point in the life, we all have FALLEN short of the glory of God BECAUSE we all have SINNED at one time or another in our life.

And it was Satan, the DEVIL who entices us to SIN.

Now sadly, Christadelphian Christians do NOT believe that Satan, the Devil, is a REAL literal BEING. And the Christadelphian Christians ALSO wrongly believe, as well as, some other church denominations, that God created EVIL and that Yahweh is the CAUSE of all of the EVIL in the world. 

Plus, Christadelphian Christians, as well as other church denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church, sincerely, but wrongly believe in the FALSE doctrine or original sin. And thus, they build their other man-made doctrines upon the false doctrine of every person being born with a so-called sinful NATURE.

Again, once Christians understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands. 

And that you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels. 

Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become a Lord, a King, and a God, to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
