This is a VERSE-by-VERSE study of chapter 5 in the Book of Revelation.
This verse-by-verse study on the Book of Revelation is from or with a Biblical Unitarian view of Jesus. In other words, verses like Revelation 1:8 are interpreted in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God and NOT in the TRADITIONAL church interpretation.
To say this another way, it is NOT Jesus who is the one speaking in Revelation 1:8. But rather, it is Almighty God the Father speaking in Revelation 1:8.

Here in chapter 5, we will see a lot of things coming together concerning WHO Jesus TRULY is in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God. So pay close attention to WHO SITS on the throne and WHO comes over to the ONE that SAT on the throne.
Revelation 5:1. “And I saw in the right hand of Him that SAT upon the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.”
In this verse, I just want to draw your attention to the fact that the being who SAT upon the throne is holding a book in His right hand. The book literally a scroll written on both sides and it is in right hand HIM that SAT upon the throne. Also, notice that the scroll or book is sealed with SEVEN seals.
Now, this simple fact of the ONE sitting ON the throne having SOMETHING is is right hand will positively identify the ONE who sits upon the throne, which was, and is, and is to come as being Almighty God, the Father, the Lord God Almighty in Revelation 1:4-8, and Revelation 4:8-10.

Revelation 5:2. “And I saw a strong angel with a loud voice, Who is WORTHY to open the book, and loose the seals thereof?”
Revelation 5:3. “And no MAN in heaven, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.”
Revelation 5:4. “And I wept much, because no MAN was found WORTHY to open the book, neither to look thereon.”
Revelation 5:5. “And one of the elders says unto me, weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has PREVAILED to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
Now, who is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David? To me, the Bible itself makes it pretty clear that Revelation 5:3 is speaking of Jesus who PREVAILED to open the book. Please see Genesis 49:8-12 where Jesus comes out of the lineage of the tribe of Judah. Also, read Revelation 22:16, which tells us that Jesus is of the ROOT of David.
Revelation 22:16.
“I JESUS have sent my angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the ROOT and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”
Also, the STRONG ANGEL or the STRONG MESSENGER in verse Revelation 5:2 could possibly be Jesus HIMSELF saying with a loud voice, who is worthy to open the seals. Just a thought. The reason that I bring this though up is that the messenger is STRONG, and he has a great or mighty voice. And after John sees that no MAN is found worthy and he begins to weep, then one of the elders said to John BEHOLD, which carries the meaning of take a CLOSER look.
In other words, John SAW the strong angel in verse 2, but it does not say where John saw the strong messenger. But when John looks again, he sees the LAMB as if it had be slain standing in the midst of the throne, which is the place where one would have a great or mighty voice of importance. Again, just a thought.
The main point that I want you to see is that in verse 4, they were searching for a MAN who was WORTHY. I mean, why would they being for a MAN to be found WORTHY if the Lamb that was slain was Almighty God Himself as some Christians dogmatically demand. For you see, some Christians argue that if you do NOT Almighty God Himself died on the cross for your sins, then you are DEAD in your sins, because no MAN can die for the sins of the world.
But where in the Bible ITSELF does it say that NO MAN can die for the sins of the world? There is no such verse of Scripture.
However, there are many verses of Scripture that clearly teach us that it was the Son of MAN who was lifted up on the cross. And what about the verses that speak of Jesus as being the last ADAM. The first MAN was earthly, but the second MAN or the last ADAM, which means MAN is the Lord of heaven.
The King James Version says “from” heaven, but the literal meaning of the Greek word “ek” is origin and the source or reason for the second MAN. And according to Acts 2:33-36, the Son of MAN, Jesus, was MADE Lord by his God in heaven after the cross and resurrection. In other words, God made the first Adam OUT of the earth or soil, and thus, the first Adam was MORTAL. The second MAN was made OUT of heavenly nature, which is IMMORTAL. For you see, according to John 5:21-27, Almighty God the Father GAVE the Son LIFE to be having in himself even as the Father has always had LIFE in Himself BECAUSE Jesus was the Son of MAN.
Let us move on to Revelation 5:6.
Revelation 5:6. “And behold, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth in the earth.”
Who is the Lamb as it had been slain? Again, I believe this is speaking of Jesus because the Bible speaks of Jesus being the LAMB that was SLAIN from before the foundation of the world in Revelation 13:8, which we will cover when we get to it. And John the Baptist said, behold the Lamb which takes aways the sins of the world in John 1:29.
Also, notice that the seven lamps of fire are the seven Spirits of God, and the seven eyes of Jesus are also the seven Spirits of God. Therefore, the seven lamps ARE the seven eyes of Jesus.
And, to me, we, the CHURCH are the EYES, hands, and feet of Jesus in the earth. Also, the seven EYES of Jesus are the seven churches in Asia, which are a picture of the ONE true church. Believers are likened to the LAMPS or as being LIGHTS in the world. And the CANDLE of God, which is the SPIRIT of LIFE in every human being as we have already covered in chapter 4, searchers the inward parts of the man.
Now, it is this next verse that I want to draw your attention to so you can see beyond any shadow of a doubt that there are TWO separate beings in heaven, Almighty God and the Lamb. Almighty God the Father is the ONE who sits on the throne. And the LAMB is the SON OF Almighty God the Father who comes over to his God and Father to take the book OUT of the right hand of his Father.
Revelation 5:7. “And he (The Lamb) came and took the book out of the right hand of Him that SAT upon the throne.”
Now, to me, this verse clearly identifies that Almighty God, the Father, is the ONE who sits upon the throne, which was, and is, and is to come.in Revelation 1:4-8.
And what I want you to notice is that the Lamb, which we all agree is Jesus, comes over and takes the book out of the right hand of Him who SITS on the throne.
Now, I do not know about you, but I find that the Bible ITSELF clearly shows us that Jesus and Almighty God are definitely two different and distinct persons or beings. They are NOT one and the self-same being as the Oneness Pentecostal believers wrongly teach.
Let us go back and expound a little about the book or scroll that is written on both sides and is sealed with the SEVEN seals. We clearly see that someone was NEEDED to be found WORTHY to OPEN the seven seals. Then we see that ONLY the MAN Jesus was found WORTHY to open the seal because he was the LAMB who had been SLAIN.
Now, without going into great detail to support what we all know and agree upon, which is that Jesus was crucified on the cross as an INNOCENT pure Lamb without spot or blemish, let us look at WHY God needed a MAN to die for th sins of the world.
For you see, what some of you may not know is that with God it is a RIGHTEOUS thing to execute judgment and vengeance on the wicked. And we shall judge Satan and the fallen angels.
Please read 2 Thessalonians 1:6.
“Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;”
So then, seeing that Jesus lived without sin PLUS doing all his Father’s will even to suffer and die on the cross for the sins of the whole world, then you should see why the Som of MAN, Jesus, was found WORTHY to execute the judgment AND the WRATH of Almighty God.
But here are some little know FACTS that some Christians have never been told.
#1. Did you know that Almighty God has given ALL of the saints the HONOR to execute the vengeance of God WITH Jesus.
Psalm 149:5-9.
“Let the SAINTS be joyful in GLORY: let them sing aloud upon their beds.
Psalm 149:6. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand;
Psalm 149:7. To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
Psalm 149:8. To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
Psalm 149:9. To execute upon them the judgment written: this HONOR have ALL his SAINTS. Praise you the LORD.”
#2. Did you know that we are given the SAME GLORY that Almighty God GAVE to His Son, Jesus? See John 17:22.
#3. Did you know that we will be made ONE with Almighty God is the SAME way that Jesus is ONE with the Father? See John 17:13-26.
#4. Have you ever been told what Matthew 25:21,23 TRULY means when Jesus said “enter you into the JOY of your Lord”?
#5. Have you ever been told that Almighty God MADE the Son of MAN Jesus to be Lord AFTER the cross and resurrection? See Acts 2:22-36.
I kind of got a little off-track, but the tribulation that God appointed for us as Christians is for a PURPOSE. And that purpose is for us who overcome to JUDGE the fallen angels.
Now, we also need to keep in mind that the TRIBULATION of the saints extends all through the age of the church INCLUDING the last 3 1/2 years of GREAT tribulation. And we need to understand that the great tribulation is NOT the WRATH of God. We will cover WHY the great tribulation is not the wrath of God in great detail when we get to those verses. But what I want you to see right now is that the “OPENING” of the seven seals represents to executing of the seven seals. And as you will see when we get to Revelation chapter 6, the first fours seals span long periods of history, setting the stage so to speak for the last 3 1/2 years of great tribulation.
But for now, let us move on to the next verse here in Revelation chapter 5.
Revelation 5:8. “And WHEN he (Jesus, the Lamb who was found worthy) had taken the book, the four beasts and the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odors, which are prayers of the saints.”
The Apostle John being caught up before the throne and the 24 elders having white robes represent or are symbolic of the church being caught up before the throne of God. But also know and understand that the souls of the DEAD in Jesus Christ are in heaven as well. They are under the altar of God a waiting for the VENGEANCE of God to avenge their blood. For you see, many of them were, are, and still will be martyred for their testimony of Jesus and the word of God.
In other words, there are still prayers being offering up to God from the saints still living on the earth. And I believe that among these prayers during the great tribulation will be the cries of the saints saying, “Even so, COME Lord Jesus.” Come and end this killing and suffering of your people. Come and AVENGE your people, the Christians AND the Jews.
But let us not forget other VICTIMS, the peaceful Muslims who are also being killed by their OWN people that Satan has made into the IMAGE of the first beast, which has been come to be called “RADICAL” Muslims.
Revelation 5:9 tells us more about the bowing down of the 24 elders before the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Revelation 5:9. “And they sang a new song, saying, You are WORTHY to take the book, and to OPEN the seals thereof: FOR you were SLAIN, and have redeemed us to God by your blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;”
The timing of the singing of this new song will be after the rapture of the church. For you see, that is when the MANIFESTATION of us becoming the eternal sons and daughters of God will be brought to past, according to Romans 8:18.19.
We who endure unto the end to be saved will SING a NEW song saying, WORTHY are you, Jesus, to execute the WRATH of Almighty God. Yes, we can sing praise to Jesus now in this present world, but when the day of our Lord’s return comes and we are changed from mortal to be made partakers of the Divine NATURE to be like Jesus, how much MORE joy there will be in our singing.
I know that this is not clear to some of you yet that there is a DIFFERENCE between the great tribulation and the WRATH of God but stay with me and hear me out. If you do, then you will see that not ALL of the seals are the WRATH of God. But rather, it is only the SEVENTH seal that is the first HALF and hour of the wrath of God. You will also see that the FIRST SIX seals deal with tribulation throughout the history of the church and also include the last 3 1/2 years of great tribulation. Again, I will explain more detail on this when we get to Revelation chapter 6, so be patient.
Revelation 5:10. “And you have made us unto our God kings and priest: and we shall reign on (Or we shall reign OVER) the earth.”
Here is just a little summary to connect things together and to expound a little more on some things I placed in bold letters, but I did not comment on.
Here again in verse 10, we see that the VIALS full of odors are said to be the PRAYERS of the saints. This is one of the times we do not need to speculate what the saints are praying. For you see, we are PLAINLY told what this figurative language of vials filled with odors means and what some of the prayers are.
Also, notice that we are redeemed unto our God by the blood of the Lamb. We all agree that the Lamb is Jesus, the only begotten Son of God. But we all do NOT agree who our God truly is. In other words, some Christians dogmatically demand that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh.
Now, while it is true that God GAVE the Son of MAN, Jesus, ALL power, and ALL authority to be made Lord and God to reign over the earth during the world to come for 1000 years, that does NOT make Jesus to be Almighty God HIMSELF. For you see, if being GIVEN all power and authority to rule as God over the earth during the world to come means that Jesus MUST be Almighty God Himself, then we also must be Almighty God as well. Can you not see that we will be made gods, lords, and kings WITH Jesus to rule over the whole earth during the world to come? Everything the Jesus INHERITS we ALSO will inherit with him. Jesus is our brother, and we are JOINT-HEIRS with Jesus.
What I am trying to show is that the Bible clearly keeps the distinction between Almighty God the Father and Jesus His Son. So then, why does church TRADITION lump the Father and His Son together and refer to Jesus as being Almighty God Himself, when there are so MANY verses that PROVE beyond any shadow of a doubt that Jesus is NOT Almighty God Himself?
Please understand that I am not trying to belittle the doctrines of the church. But rather, I am simply after the TRUTH! I want to believe and teach what the Bible ITSELF actually teaches, rather than teaching the tradition of men. I believe that the TRUTH matters. To me, it does not matter what this church or that denomination teaches, because we will not be judged by what TRADITION teaches. But rather, we will be judged by what the WHOLE word of Almighty God ITSELF teaches.
Now notice in verse 10 that we shall reign ON the earth and NOT that we are going to live up in heaven. Again, we are taught by the church in general that we will one day live up in heaven for all eternity. But I do not believe the Bible itself teaches this.
So then, why do Christians continue to teach what is contrary to the WHOLE word of God? It is because they have never been taught what the Bible itself teaches. Or it is because they have chosen to believe church tradition OVER what the Bible itself actually teaches.
The Bible clearly teaches that we shall reign ON THE EARTH. But also know and understand that the Greek word that is translated as the preposition “on” the earth means OVER the earth as well. And I believe that the saints will be in the City of God, the New Jerusalem up in the FIRST heaven, the SKY, reigning OVER the earth during the 1000-year reign of Jesus.
Now, just know that if heaven may not be like that to because of what you have been taught by your church denomination, then that is alright with me. But I suggest that you read the word of God for yourself to find out if what you are being taught is the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of God.
You might be wondering why I always emphasize the WHOLE word of God. If so, then please read the study called the WHOLE MATTER!
But for now, let us finish up this verse-by-verse study on Revelation chapter 5. We only have four more verses to cover in this chapter.
Revelation 5:11. “And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;”
John hears the voice of many angels around the throne of God. Now the number of the beasts or the elders is not specifically mentioned in this particular verse, but from other verses we know that there are four beasts and 24 elders.
So then, we see no less that three groups, the angels, the four beasts, and the 24 elders around the throne. Again, the number of the last two groups is mentioned again in verse fourteen, which we will look at in a moment.
Now, the number of the angles, MIGHT also include the saints of God seeing that the Greek word translated as angels also means messengers. And thus, the number of the MESSENGERS is ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands. And most Bible scholars see this number as being a number which cannot be number or at least a very, very large number. Again, remember that the word “angels” can also mean messengers and we are the messengers of the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is also a messenger of God as well as the 24 elders seated before the throne are messengers of God. As far as the four beast, I still have no clue as to who are what they represent.
Let us move on to verse 12.
Revelation 5:12. “Saying with a loud voice, WORTHY is the Lamb that was SLAIN to RECEIVE POWER, and wisdom, and honor, and glory, and blessing.”
The thing that stands out most to me in this verse is the following phrase.
“…WORTHY is the Lamb that was slain to RECEIVE POWER…”
Now, I can understand that if Jesus was Almighty God Himself who suffered and died on the cross then he would be worthy to RECEIVE glory honor and blessing.
But for and Almighty God to RECEIVE POWER, that does not compute in my mind. I mean, how can an already Almighty and ALL-POWERFUL God be found WORTHY to RECEIVE POWER that He already has?
Some of you may have to think about this for a while until it sinks in. Ask yourself the question, “WHY did the Son of the living God needed to be SLAIN in order to RECEIVE power?”
For you see, church TRADITION has TAUGHT Christians that Jesus was the Son of God from all eternity past and that he ruled and reigned with the creator over all things and ALREADY had power, glory and blessings of the Father in eternity past.
However, while reading the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance the FALL of mankind. It was at the fall of Adam and Eve that the transferring of man’s authority and power over all of the the earth was given back to Lucifer who is now called Satan. That is when Satan became the god of this present world. Yes, you read THE god of this world correctly. The original Greek text has the definite article THE before the Greek word “theos” in 2 Corinthians 4:3,4.
And once Christians understand that there are TWO Gods at WAR, the TRUTHFUL God and the LYING God, then you can see WHY God NEEDED a MAN to be highly exalted to become a God over the earth to replace Satanm seeing that the FIRST Adam failed the test of OBEDIENCE to obey God’s one commandment to NOT eat of the tree of good AND EVIL.
So then, in my own opinion based upon the WHOLE word of Almighty God, it became necessary for God to have a MAN be His sacrificial Lamb that he would provide for Himself.
And Jesus is that Lamb of God. Now, the WORD in John 1:1-14 is the spoken SAYING of God that was FULFILLED to be made a man or made flesh and blood in nature to redeem mankind back to God. Please read the study called JESUS THE SON OF MAN! And also read the study entitled UNDERSTANDING WHY?
The study called “understanding why” covers many questions we should be asking and that many have asked, such as why does God allow suffering?
Some of the questions I have asked God is why did he create man a little LOWER than the angels only to later highly exalt man HIGHER than the angels?
And why does God let Satan LOOSE after he has had him bound for a 1000 years? This is one study I personally feel that all Christians should read and then perhaps some would stop blaming God for everything that happens.

On to the next verse in Revelation chapter 5.
Revelation 5:13. “And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that SITS upon the throne, AND unto the Lamb forever.”
John was saying, I heard every creature say Blessing, and honor, and glory. and power to God the Father, who sits on the throne AND to the Lamb, the Son of God. And that INCLUDES Satan and the fallen angels bowing down to Jesus at the end of the 1000-year reign of Jesus on the final Day of Judgment.
Hebrews 1:6 teaches us that God will bring his FIRST BEGOTTEN into the world AGAIN, He will say, let ALL of the ANGELS worship him.
To me, this means that EVERY knee WILL bow at the NAME of Jesus whether they want to or not. And EVERY tongue will CONFESS that Jesus is Lord whether they want to or not. And even Satan and the fallen angels will bow and worship the NAME of Jesus to the GLORY of Almighty God the Father, according to Philippians 2:8-11.
And when Philippians 2:8-11 says the NAME of Jesus, it means the NEW NAME that God gave to the Son of MAN, Jesus, after the cross and resurrection. This is why John 3:16-18 says that whosoever believes on the NAME of the only begotten Son shall NOT perish but be given ETERNAL LIFE.
Also, Romans 8:19-22 tells us about the whole creation GROANING and waiting with an earnest expectation to be delivered from the corruption of Satan’s kingdom.
So then, we see in heaven a glimpse of the future liberty of all of the creatures of God. I say future because this is a prophecy of yet a future event. No one receives their new glorified immortal body of flesh and bone like Jesus has now UNTIL the coming of Jesus.
And consequently, this means that if Revelation 4:1 is the ONLY type, shadow, figure, or example of the rapture of the church, then all the seal trumpets, and vials must be the WRATH of Almighty God.
Again, that is to say, if Revelation 4:1 was the ONLY example of the rapture of the church in the Book of Revelation. But is is NOT the only picture of the rapture of the church in the Book of Revelation. There are SIX more figures of the rapture in the Book of Revelation.
As I said before, MANY Christians in the church are now seeing that Revelation 7:9-17 is a type, shadow, figure, or example of the rapture of the church. But then, some run off prematurely with that new revelation from God and write a book that wrongly teaches that everything AFTER chapter 7 is the WRATH of God. And God is saying to them, where are you going? I am not finished revealing to you the rest!
Again, more on the seven examples of the rapture of the church found in the book of Revelation when we get to Revelation chapter 7.
For now, let us look at the last verse in Revelation chapter 5.
Revelation 5:14. “And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshiped him that lives forever and ever.”
The word “amen” means yes it is true, of a certainty I agree. Saying “amen” is a confirmation that you agree with something and you are saying, so be it.
So, to me, the four beast, are AGREEING and saying SO BE IT. Now, this is just be thinking out loud so to speak, but I am seeing a “possibility” of who the four BEASTS represent.
Let me see if I can explain this. The word “BEAST” everywhere else in the Book of Revelation refers to the side of EVIL, Satan, his angels, and those who follow the ways of Satan. And all of the BEASTS, Satan, the fallen angels and all of the sinners will stand BEFORE the THRONE of Almighty God on the final Day of Judgment.
So then, the four beast could possibly represent those who will be MADE to bow their knee to the NAME of Jesus and CONFESS that Jesus is Lord to the GLORY of Almighty God the Father. For you see, the Elohim of the Elohim said to the fallen Elohim and to the good Elohim, let us make man in OUR image and after OUR likeness.
Now, to me, God made that decision to END the WAR between the angels and to CLEAR His NAME being blasphemed by His ENEMIES. For a deeper understand of this WAR that Lucifer waged against God’s throne of authority, please read Book 6. Here is a link to chapter 1 called B-6 Ch1 WHY God Created us!
Now some teach that the pronoun “him” in this verse 14 that the four beasts and the 24 elders who fall down and worship HIM that lives forever and ever is referring to Jesus.
But I maintain that they are worshiping Almighty God the Father who sits on the throne that lives forever and ever. Please refer back to where we were first introduced to the four beasts and the 24 elders in Revelation 4:10 which says the following.
Revelation 4:10.
“The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that SAT upon the throne, and worship him that lives forever and ever.”
Now, they may be worshiping BOTH Almighty God the Father who sits on the throne AND the Lamb, the Son of Almighty God who has been found worthy to open the seals.
And if that is the God intended meaning, Philippians 2:8-11 teaches us that all of the worship given to Jesus goes to the GLORY of Almighty God the Father.
Philippians 2:8-11.
“And being found in fashion as a MAN, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:9. WHEREFORE, (Or for this very REASON that the Son of MAN obeyed his God and Father to die on the cross for the sins of the world) God also has HIGHLY EXALTED him, and GIVEN him a NAME which is above EVERY name:
Philippians 2:10. THAT (Or in order that) at the NAME of Jesus (Speaking of at this NEW NAME that God GAVE to the Son of MAN, Jesus, FOR dying on the cross) EVERY knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (Speaking of Satan and the fallen angels, and all who reject Jesus)
Philippians 2:11. And that EVERY tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the GLORY of God the Father.”
This brings us to CHAPTER 6 of the book of Revelation.
Once Christians, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands.
And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become a Lord, a King, and a God, to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
