What Does Being God’s FIRSTBORN Son TRULY Mean?

This Verse Study is based upon the WHOLE word of God and NOT upon a few verses of Scripture that have been taken OUT of there CONTEXT. For example, the Jehovah’s Witnesses wrongly teach that the Son of God was begotten by the Father in the “eternity past”. But that is NOT what the Bible ITSELF teaches us in SIMPLICITY.

So, let us begin the Verse Study by reading Psalm 89:27 by itself from a few different translations, and then I will explain what this verse TRULY means in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.

Here is Psalm 89:27 from the KJV.

“Also I will MAKE him my FIRSTBORN, higher than the kings of the earth.”

Here is Psalm 89:27 from the BBE.

“And I will MAKE him the FIRST of my sons, most high over the kings of the earth.”

Here is Psalm 89:27 from the the CEB

“Yes, I’ll MAKE him the one born FIRST— I’ll MAKE him the high king of all earth’s kings.”

Here is Psalm 89:27 from the GNT.

“I will MAKE him my FIRST-born son, the greatest of all kings.”

Here is Psalm 89:27 from the RSV.

“And I will make him the first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.”

Here is Psalm 89:27 from the NIV.

“And I WILL appoint him to be my FIRSTBORN, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.”

So then, by comparing other translations, it makes it blatantly clear that Yahweh is PROPHESYING of His future Son who He will MAKE to BECOME God’s FIRST begotten Son. And it is also blatantly clear in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God that Yahweh prophesied to HIGHLY EXALT His Son that is born FIRST, before any other of God’s future sons who are the BRETHREN of Jesus.

In other words, when we read the CONTEXT to learn WHO is the pronoun “him” referring to that will BECOME God’s FIRST Son, we ALSO see tha Yahweh will EXALT him to be higher that the kings of the earth.

So, to me, Psalm 89:27 is definitely a PROPHECY of the Messiah who BECAME God’s FIRSTBORN Son from the DEAD, according to Acts 13:32-38, Hebrews 1:5, and Hebrews 5:5, plus, many more passages of Scripture.

Let us now read the CONTEXT so that you can see for yourself the Psalm 89:27 is a PROPHECY of the Messiah BECOMING God’s FIRST Son among MANY brethren or many other sons of God. I will quote verse 3 and 4 first. And then I will skip down to verse 18 and read through verse 37, so that you can see the DIFFERENCE between King David in the Old Testament and the FIGURE of King David, the Messiah, who was prophesied to come.

Psalm 89:3,4,18-37.

“I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, 

Psalm 89:4. Your SEED will I establish for ever, and build up your throne to all generations. Selah… (The word “Selah” means to pause and THINK about this. God made a covenant with King David and promise him that the Messiah would be born of the SEED of his loins)

…Psalm 89:18. For the LORD is our defense; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

(Here we see TWO separate beings, Yahweh, the Eternal Spirit, and His Messiah, the Holy One of Israel whom Yahweh exalted and SET as His King of kings and Lord of lords to be ruler over the earth during the world to come) 

Psalm 89:19. Then You spoke in VISION to Your Holy One, and said, I have laid HELP upon one that is mighty; I have EXALTED one chosen OUT of the PEOPLE. 

Psalm 89:20. I have FOUND David my servant; with my holy oil have I ANOINTED him: (Selah, pause and THINK about God FINDING David who God ALREADY knew and made a covenant with promising King David that the Messiah would be born from his SEED.

So then, this is a PROPHECY of the Messiah and the NAME David is a FIGURE of Jesus. The name David means loving. Jesus is God’s BELOVED human Son, whom He EXALTED and CROWNED with glory and honor to RECEIVE power, according to Revelation 5:12, Matthew 28:12, John 17:2, and Philippians 2:8-11, plus many more verses of Scripture)

Psalm 89:21. With whom My hand shall be established: My arm also shall strengthen him. (The Holy Spirit is referred to as the HAND of Yahweh. And the arm of Yahweh is His word, both written and spoken. The hands and arms of Yahweh are NOT separate persons of God as Trinitarian Christians CLAIM. 

But rather, the hands and the arms are a PART of Yahweh’s very own BEING like our hands and arms are a PART of our body. Notice that it says My ARM shall strengthen him, God’s Messiah. And according to Psalm 119:28, the word of God promises to give us strength in verses like Isaiah 40:29-31)

Psalm 89:22. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. 

Psalm 89:23. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. (This is a prophecy of Yahweh putting all His enemies under the feet of the highly exalted Son of MAN, Jesus, during the Millennial reign of Jesus)

Psalm 89:24. But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him: and in My name shall his horn be exalted. (This is a prophecy of Jesus being GIVEN a NEW NAME after the cross and resurrection, according to the prophecy in Isaiah 62:2-5 and the fulfillment in Philippians 2:8-11)

Psalm 89:25. I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. 

Psalm 89:26. He shall cry unto Me, You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. (The entire New Testament makes it blatantly clearly that Almighty God the Father is the God of His Son, Jesus. For example, here are just two of the many verses that clearly teach us that Jesus has a God over him, John 20:17 and Revelation 3:12. And Hebrews 5:7 is where Jesus cried out to God to save him because he knew God would hear him and answer his cry for help)

Psalm 89:27. Also, I WILL MAKE him My FIRSTBORN, higher than the kings of the earth. (The pronoun “my” is NOT in the original text. So it should read, I WILL MAKE him to be the FIRSTBORN who I will ALSO MAKE to be HIGHER than the kings of the earth. The kings of the earth is a PROPHECY of us who BELIEVE being made kings and priests, according to Revelation 1:_

Psalm 89:28. My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and My covenant shall stand fast with him. 

Psalm 89:29. His seed (Again, a prophecy of us who BELIEVE in Jesus to become the seed of Abraham by being the SEED of Jesus) will I ALSO make to endure for ever, (Or will I ALSO give eternal life) and his throne as the days of heaven. 

Psalm 89:30. If his children forsake My law, and walk not in my judgments; (This is speaking of us who BELIEVE in the now GLORIFIED Jesus. We who believe are the children of God, and at the coming of Jesus, God will GIVE all the people to Jesus. 

Those who Jesus finds WORTHY to receive eternal life will be called his children. Those who fight against Jesus will be slain in the war at Armageddon. And those who repent and call upon the name of the Lord will be saved alive to go into the Millennial reign of Jesus in their MORTAL bodies to be taught the gospel of salvation. 

Trust me when I say that you do NOT want to WAIT to be saved at that time. It will be far better to be save NOW in this present world to be given eternal life at the coming of Jesus)

Psalm 89:31. If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; 

Psalm 89:32. Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. (Basically, those during the 1000-year reign of Jesus will be given two and out two chances to OBEY Jesus, and the third disobedience ends in the lake of fire on the final day of Judgment)

Psalm 89:33. Nevertheless, My lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer My faithfulness to fail. 

Psalm 89:34. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips. 

Psalm 89:35. Once have I sworn by My holiness that I will not lie unto David. 

Psalm 89:36. His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. (Now, not every single offsprings from the loins of King David will be given eternal life. And thus, this is a PROPHECY of Jesus and those who BELIEVE in Jesus)

Psalm 89:37. It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a FAITHFUL WITNESS in heaven. Selah.

Now, much of the rest of this Psalm 89 is a PROPHECY of what will happen to Satan, and the ENEMIES of God. The moon is a FIGURE of Satan, the lesser light that given light to the children of the NIGHT or DARKNESS. But we are NOT the children of the night, according to 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11. But that is another study in and of itself.

However, I will say his much, the REASON that God created MAN and the Son of Man, Jesus, to be made a little LOWER that the angels is found in Psalm 8:1-6, which will be my next VERSE Study. 

But for now, let us briefly COMPARE Scripture with Scripture to see in my “interpretation” of Psalm 89:27 AGREES with the rest of God’s word concerning the words “FIRSTBORN”, FIRST-BEGOTTEN, FIRST BEGOTTEN, BEGOTTEN, and ONLY BEGOTTEN.

Revelation 1:5 clearly teaches us that Jesus is called the FIRST BEGOTTEN from the DEAD to be a FAITHFUL WITNESS, who has made us to be kings and priests.

Revelation 1:5-7.

“And from Jesus Christ, who is the FAITHFUL WITNESS, and the FIRST BEGOTTEN of the DEAD, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Revelation 1:6. And has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 

Revelation 1:7. Behold, he comes with clouds; (Speaking of the SECOND coming of Jesus when God BRINGS His FIRST-BEGOTTEN Son into the world to be WORSHIPED and have every knee BOW to the NAME of Jesus and confess him and Lord to the GLORY of Almighty God the Father) and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: (Speaking of the MORTAL human Son of God) and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”

And Hebrews 1:6 agrees with God BRINGING His FIRST-BEGOTTEN Son into the world to be worshiped by ALL of the angels. The good angels already rejoice when humans are SAVED, but Satan and the fallen angels hate the day that Jesus was born. Again, the very REASON for WHY God created MAN and the Son of MAN, Jesus, is BECAUSE of His ENEMIES. So I implore you to read the Verse Study Psalm 8:1-6 and Book 6 Why God Created us, after you finish reading the rest of this study.

Here is Hebrews 1:6. 

“And AGAIN, (Speaking of the SECOND coming of Jesus) when He brings in the FIRST-BEGOTTEN into the world, (Speaking of the FIRST Son of God BEGOTTEN from the DEAD, according to Revelation 1:5-7, Revelation 3:12-14, Colossians 1:18-20, Romans 8:29, and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) He said, And let all the angels of God worship him.”

Now, in Revelation 1:5 and Revelation 3:12-14 we learn that Jesus is the first FAITHFUL and TRUE WITNESS, the MAN that God APPROVED, by resurrecting him from the DEAD to BECOME the FIRSTBORN Son of God, the BEGINNING of God’s CREATION of faithful and true witnesses. 

And, according to Acts 17:29-31, the Godhead, Almighty God the Father, the head God of Jesus, will JUDGE the world by the MAN that He ORDAINED and raised from the DEAD. And, according to Romans 8:29, Jesus, is the FIRSTBORN Son of God among MANY BRETHREN.

Romans 8:29.

“For whom He did foreknow, (Speaking of Genesis 1:26, let us make MAN in OUR IMAGE after OUR likeness, and all of the other PROPHECIES on His Messiah) He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

Also, Colossians 1:15 AGREES with Revelation 1:5 and Revelation 3:12-14 that teaches WHEN the CREATION of God BEGAN and with WHO the creation of God BEGAN. The BEGINNING of the creation of God is the Son of MAN, Jesus, being resurrected from the DEAD and MADE PERFECT or COMPLETE in the IMAGE of the unseen God. And the CONTEXT of Colossians 1:15 in verse 18 proves that interpretation.

Colossians 1:18.

“And he (Speaking of the now GLORIFIED Son of MAN, Jesus) is the HEAD of the BODY, the church: who is the BEGINNING, (Speaking of the beginning of the CREATION of God to be made a NEW CREATURE) the FIRSTBORN from the DEAD; (The FIRST Son of God whom Yahweh EXALTED to be HIGHER than the kings of the earth) that in all things he might have the preeminence.” 

The English word “things” is NOT in the original text. And the LITERAL translation says, THAT may be becoming  in ALL, he being the FIRST. Now, I believe that BOTH translations are valid that agree with the rest of God’s word. Certainly, Jesus is the HEAD of the church of the FIRSTBORN and God is the HEAD of Jesus. 

But Jesus is ALSO the FIRST Son it the church of the FIRSTBORN as well. Jesus is the FIRSTFRUITS, according to 1 Corinthians 15:20. And, according to Romans 8:29, Jesus is the FIRSTBORN among many BRETHREN. And now we are being confirmed into the IMAGE of Jesus, But God made Jesus in His IMAGE first. And thus, Jesus was the FIRST or the BEGINNING of God’s CREATION, the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE, according to Colossians 1:15.

Colossians 1:15.

“Who is the IMAGE of the invisible God, the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE:”

Speaking of God’s NEW creation of righteous people that God PROPHESIED He would CREATE in Psalm 102:18 and Isaiah 65:18, speaking of the NEW Jerusalem, the city of God.

Hebrews 12:23.

“But you are come unto mount Sion, (Or Mount Zion) and (Or EVEN) unto the CITY of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 

Hebrews 23. To the general assembly and church of the FIRSTBORN, (Or the BODY of the FIRSTBORN) which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.”

In other words, the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands. And the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
