Did the translators of the 1611 Authorized King James Version believe that they were INSPIRED by God as they translated the Bible?

Why did the translators place NOTES in the margins to show other POSSIBLE translations or meanings of some verses of Scripture if they believed that they were “inspired” by God?

And why such a long preface explaining that this NEW translation should be received rather than fought against?

Did theTranslators of the KJV BELIEVE They Were Inspired?

Chapter 2.

The REAL TRUTH About the KJV Translation!

Do you want to know the REAL TRUTH about the King James Version of the Bible and what the translators THEMSELVES believed?

In other words, did the translators of the KJV make the CLAIM that the KJV is the ONLY PURE translation of the Bible? Did the translators believe that God divinely revealed to them the exact meaning of each and every Hebrew and Greek word that God intended His word to mean in the English language?

In other words, did the translators claim that they were INSPIRED by God? Or did the translators DEBATE among one another to make a decision as to which meaning might be the best choice among the many different possible meanings?

For you see, WHY would the translators place NOTES in the margin of the 1611 KJV to show OTHER possible translations if they themselves believed that they were INSPIRED by God?

The obvious truth is that the translators understood that it is not possible to accurately know the exact God intended meaning of every single verse of Scripture.

And even if they did, it is very difficult to translate the exact meaning into another language that does not have the exact word meaning the exact same thing.

So then, here in chapter 2 of this Book 4 called B-4 Ch1 The King James ONLY Controversy, we will cover some of the many errors in translation found in the KJV.

And by “errors” I mean all different kinds of errors. I mean typographical errors, printing errors, the accidental errors, and the DELIBERATE adding to God’s word for the purpose of trying to support a preconceived BELIEF.

In other words, the BIASED errors which the translators sincerely believed were the truth. And some of those errors were made by others BEFORE them as deliberate additions to SOME of the Greek manuscripts for the purpose of trying to support the doctrine of the Trinity.

If you have not read chapter 1, you can read it later, or you can read it right now by clicking on the link above. I also recommending reading Book 1, John 1:1 Made SIMPLE, Book 2, Did God Send His Son DOWN From Heaven, and Book 3, The Age BEFORE Man, if you have not already read them.

Let us begin chapter 2 of book 4 by taking a look at some reasons for WHY the translators themselves, those who actually TRANSLATED the KJV, did NOT teach that it was the ONLY PURE translation.

For example, in their “preface” of 1611 KJV, the translators themselves wrote that there were ALREADY editions of other English translations that were correct

However, by the ORDER of King James of England, some verses needed to be corrected to satisfy the Puritans to agree with what the Puritans believed. And thus, only if the Puritan interpretation is correct, is the KJV correct in changing that particular verses to satisfy the “scrupulous” brethren.

And the translators themselves did not seem to agree with the order given by King James. Read the following quote from the “preface” in the 1611 KJV for yourself. Which, by the way was REMOVED when the KJV was EDITED in other “editions” of the KJV.

So then, if you are honest with yourself and with God, you have to ask yourself WHY? Why was the preface that was written by the translators of the KJV removed? Keep in mind that this preface was ONLY in the 1611 EDITION.

And thus, the phrase, “in one or other of our editions” is referring to the other English translations that were ALREADY SOUND translations before the KJV, according to the “translators” themselves. The emphasis is mine.

For by this means it cometh to pass, that whatsoever is sound already (and all is sound for substance, in one or other of our editions, and the worst of ours far better than their authentic vulgar) the same will shine as gold more brightly, being rubbed and polished; also, if anything be halting, or superfluous, or not so agreeable to the original, the same may be corrected, and the truth set in place.

And what can the King command to be done, that will bring him more true honour than this? And wherein could they that have been set a work, approve their duty to the King, yea their obedience to God, and love to his Saints more, than by yielding their service, and all that is within them, for the furnishing of the work?

But besides all this, they were the principal motives of it, and therefore ought least to quarrel it: for the very Historical truth is, that upon the importunate petitions of the Puritans, at his Majesty’s coming to this Crown, the Conference at Hampton Court having been appointed for hearing their complaints: when by force of reason they were put from other grounds, they had recourse at the last, to this shift, that they could not with good conscience subscribe to the Communion book, since it maintained the Bible as it was there translated, which was as they said, a most corrupted translation.

And although this was judged to be but a very poor and empty shift; yet even hereupon did his Majesty begin to bethink himself of the good that might ensue by a new translation, and presently after gave order for this Translation which is now presented unto thee. Thus, much to satisfy our scrupulous Brethren.

So then, as you can see, the translators of the KJV judged among themselves that a NEW translation regarding “communion” was a very poor and empty shift from the earlier English translations.

But yet, even after their recommendation to the King of England, King James gave the ORDER for a NEW translation to SATISFY our scrupulous brethren, the Puritans, concerning their argument related to the verses of Scripture on “communion” that they came to understand and believe in the English transitions before the KJV.

Now, I have not compared the earlier translations on the subject of communion. But, it appears that the translators did not see the need to change the earlier English translations to add more clarity to satisfy the Puritans.

However, they were being paid by the King to produce a translation that would bring UNITY to the kingdom of England. There was still much controversy between the Catholics and the Protestants during that time in history.

The second thing that all KJV ONLY Christians need to know and understand in that the 40 plus translators of the KJV did not all AGREE with each other as to how some verses of Scripture should be translated.

I say 40 plus because depending on the source you research, the number of translators range from 40, to 48, to 69 and as high as 70 translators.

Anyway, in the preface of the 1611 edition, the translators listed five reasons for why the KJV ought to be received instead of being fought against by Christians. Here is a quote of their fourth reason.

Briefly, by the fourth, being brought together to a PARLEY face to face, we sooner compose our differences than by writings which are endless;

The word “parley” means to discuss. To parley is a term that refers to a discussion or conference, especially one designed to end an argument or hostilities between two groups of people.

And one of the MOTIVES of the King of England to AUTHORIZE a NEW translation in the English language was to try to bring an end to the arguments and hostility between Christians, the Catholics and the Protestants, in his kingdom.

Please notice that there were indeed DIFFERENCES between the 40 plus translators. And their writings of those differences of opinions on how to translate some verses of Scripture were endless.

Each translator made writings as to how they believed a verse was to be translated. And thus, the majority ruled, so to speak. Plus, the King of England gave no options for a “hung jury” so to speak.

Either keep one of the other editions as already being SOUND or decide on a NEW translation. And, as you have already seen, King James gave his OWN opinion as being an ORDER and not an option.

So then, if you study even just a little history on how the KJV came to be, then you will see that MOST of verses of Scripture in of the already existing English translations where NOT changed or altered in the KJV.

In other words, the KJV was BASED upon the previous already existing English translations for the most part. And thus, they basically copied the earlier English translations in most verses.

And for the “controversial” verses of Scripture, the translators of the KJV used around 11 Greek manuscripts, which they PARLEYED or discussed intensely debating back and forth. And those 11 or so Greek manuscripts later became known as the Textus Receptus which simply means “received text”.

Please take about 9 minutes of your time and watch this short video by a well-known Trinitarian Christian and Bible scholar explaining how the KJV actually came to be.

What is the most reliable translation?

Let us now take a look at another set of quotes in the preface of the 1611 KJV translation. Which, by the way, was removed or not kept in the later editions of the 1611 KJV.

The translation was started in 1604-1605 and some of the “parley” writings obviously either leaked out or they were openly shared with Christians before the finished KJV translation was completed in 1611.

Now, the controversy seems to be between the Catholics and the Protestants over this new English KJV translations. And there was also a group of Christians called the Puritans who were against the IDEA of having a NEW translation.

And thus, when the translators say “THEIR argument against us” they are referring to either the Catholic Christian’s arguments against the Protestant translators of the KJV, or they are referring to the Puritans who were against ANY NEW translation.

Or they were referring to all who opposed a new translation of the Bible for any reason.

Here are two quotes in the same paragraph that clearly show us that the translators of the KJV made many corrections to their previous translations.

And thus, these words from the translators themselves prove that they were NOT INSPIRED by God concerning HOW they translated the Bible.

Yet before we end, we must answer a third cavil and objection of theirs against us, for altering and amending our Translations so oft; wherein truly they deal hardly, and strangely with us…

But the difference that appeareth between our Translations, and our often correcting of them, is the thing that we are specially charged with; let us see therefore whether they themselves be without fault this way, (if it be to be counted a fault, to correct) and whether they be fit men to throw stones at us:

Now, the defense made by the translators is that when the Hebrew and Greek text was translated to the Latin language, the SAME thing happened among the Catholic translators.

In other words, they also made many changes, edits, and corrections in their Latin translation due to the arguments protesting those changes. And thus, the Catholics made changes to CORRECT the Latin translation to agree with the understanding of the Greek text. So it is not a fault to make CORRECTIONS if those corrections in translation AGREE with the WHOLE word of Almighty God.

Now, that does not mean that ALL of the Latin translation was corrected. Now does it mean that the correction that were made AGREE with God’s INTENDED meaning of the Scriptures. It simply means that those so-called “corrections” satisfied those against the Latin translation.

My main point is that the translators of the KJV made MANY changes even before the 1611 version was published. And even MORE changes were made in later editions of the KJV after 1611.

I have spent more time than I expected on this point concerning what the translators believed. So we will cover the ERRORS in the KJV in the next chapter. And again by “errors” I mean all of the different kinds of errors. I mean typographical errors, printing errors, accidental errors, and DELIBERATE adding to God’s word for the purpose of trying to support a preconceived BELIEF.

We all agree that there are typographical errors and printing errors in EVERY translation of the Bible in every language. And most Christians know and understand that there are even some errors in the COPIES of the original manuscripts, but those errors are insignificant and do not change the meaning of the Scriptures.

But what the KJV ONLY Christians refuse to consider is that some of the ERRORS in the KJV are MISLEADING Christians to wrongly believe in man-made church doctrines that CONTRADICT other verses of Scripture in the Bible.

And I will explain some of those errors in the next chapter. So then, this concluded chapter 2 and in chapter 3 of this Book 4 called B-4 Ch1 The King James ONLY Controversy, we will cover some of the many errors in translation found in the KJV.
