Obviously, Almighty God Himself would not need to be baptized! But the Bible ITSELF does NOT teach us that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh as some Christians CLAIM!

So then, the TRUTH of the matter is that the Son of God NEEDED to be baptized by John the Baptist for a REASON? But what is the sound Biblical reason for WHY the Son of God was baptized with a baptism of REPENTANCE?

WHY Was Jesus Baptized?

 

Chapter 3.

Was Jesus BORN-AGAIN at his BAPTISM?

 

In other words, does John 3:16-18 teach us that Almighty God the Father sent His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son down from heaven into the world to be INCARNATED in the flesh as some Christians “INTERPRET” John 3:16 to mean, God GAVE His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son?

Or does the Bible itself teach us that a CHILD would be born of a WOMAN and then that child born of a Virgin would be CALLED to righteousness and ANOINTED by God, according to Isaiah 9:6,7, and Isaiah 42:1-9? In other words, was Jesus BORN-AGAIN at his baptism by John the Baptist to BECOME the Son of God in a SIMILAR way that WE BECAME the son of God by believing and obeying God’s word?

Now, both Trinitarian and Pentecostal Oneness Christians argue that Jesus is God HIMSELF in the flesh. And Almighty God does NOT need to be baptized for the REMISSION of any sins.

But is that argument BIBLICAL?

Let us go ahead and read all of Matthew chapter 3, so that you can see WHY John was called by Almighty God the Father to baptize his disciples for the FORGIVENESS of sins.

Please read Matthew 3:1-17.

“In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 

Matthew 3:2.  And saying, Repent you: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (So then, every other MAN or human being who believed the John was sent by Almighty God was believe John’s preaching to repent. The word REPENT means to think differently and to do God’s Will, not your own will)

Matthew 3:3.  For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. (Or make it CLEAR what the WAY of Yahweh is and what the WAY of Yahweh is NOT. The WAY, also called the HIGHWAY in Isaiah 35:8 is defined as being the highway of HOLINESS)

Matthew 3:4.  And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. 

Matthew 3:5.  Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, 

Matthew 3:6.  And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. (Or AGREEING that God has CONCLUDE ALL of Israel, as well as ALL of MAN, to be under sin, according to Romans 11:32, and Galatians 3:22. Keep in mind that this was BEFORE the atonement was made and that Jesus was a Jew under the law like all of the other children of Israel. And this was even before Jesus was TEMPTED by Satan in the wilderness. This was when God CALLED His human Son to walk in RIGHTEOUSNESS, according to the prophecy in Isaiah 42:1-6)

Matthew 3:7.  But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 

Matthew 3:8.  Bring forth, therefore, fruits meet for repentance: (Or from this day forward commit yourself to Almighty God to walk in RIGHTEOUSNESS) 

Matthew 3:9.  And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up CHILDREN unto Abraham. (So then, the baptism of John was to show that they were committing themselves to Almighty God to walk in RIGHTEOUSNESS. And BEFORE the atonement this was God’s commandment to PREPARE the WAY of HOLINESS in His NEW COVENANT that was at hand as the ONLY way to the Father)

Matthew 3:10.  And now also, the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore, every tree which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (John is prepare the WAY to the Father that will come by faith in Jesus after the atonement is made)

Matthew 3:11.  I indeed baptize you with water UNTO repentance: but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: (Not to get off track, but I believe that the baptism of FIRE is the lake of fire and not some fiery enthusiasm that comes from being baptized with the Holy Spirit. Simply read the CONTEXT in the next verse of Scripture)

Matthew 3:12.  Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. 

Matthew 3:13.  Then came Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. (Now, to me, why would the baptism of Jesus DIFFER from every other MAN? Was not Jesus the Son of MAN? Was not Jesus one of the children of Israel? Was not God preparing to CONCLUDE ALL men to be under sin? And is not Jesus the LAMB of God who would BEAR the sins of the world? And was Jesus not CALLED to walk in RIGHTEOUSNESS?) 

Matthew 3:14.  But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you, and come you to me? (God revealed to John that Jesus would be the Lamb of God. So, John felt that Jesus should be baptizing him)

Matthew 3:15.  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus, it becomes us to FULFILL all RIGHTEOUSNESS. (In other words, Jesus was saying that this is God’s Will that I am baptized with the baptism of REPENTANCE or the committing of myself to walk in RIGHTEOUSNESS) Then he suffered him. 

Matthew 3:16.  And Jesus, WHEN he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 

Matthew 3:17.  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Now, both the account in Mark 1:11 and Luke 3:22 say YOU are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. In other words, the voice of Almighty God the Father was speaking directly to the Son of MAN, Jesus, TELLING him that he is the Son of God, in whom his God and Father is well pleased.

And, if you cross reference Matthew 3:17, you will see that you are to read or compare it to Matthew 12:15-21. And that passage of Scripture is a quote from Isaiah 42:1-9. So let us go ahead and read the PROPHECY in Isaiah 42:1-9 so that you can see that Jesus was CALLED by God to walk in RIGHTEOUSNESS at the TIME of baptism of Jesus. And that you also see that that was WHEN God ANOINTED His human Son with the Holy Spirit and POWER AFTER he was baptized by John the Baptist, according to Acts 10:37,38.

Isaiah 42:1-9.

“Behold My SERVANT, whom I uphold; My elect, (Or whom I have CHOSEN) in whom my soul delights; (Or in whom my soul is well PLEASED) I have put My Spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 

Isaiah 42:2.  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. 

Isaiah 42:3.  A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. 

Isaiah 42:4.  He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. 

Isaiah 42:5.  Thus says God the LORD, He that CREATED the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and (CREATED) that which comes out of it; He that gives breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: 

Isaiah 42:6.  I the LORD have called YOU in RIGTEOUNESS, and (I) will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; (So then, clearly, this is a PROPHECY of the Messiah, whom we know is Jesus) 

Isaiah 42:7.  To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. 

Isaiah 42:8.  I am the LORD: (Or I am Yahweh) that is My NAME: (Or more correctly translated, I am Yahweh, he is NAME of Me. The Hebrew word translated as “that” also can be translated as the pronoun “he” referring back to the Messiah, Yahweh’s SERVANT who was FORMED in the WOMB and CREATED by Yahweh, according to the context in Isaiah 43:1. And the Hebrew word translated as NAME carries to meaning or appellation or the bestowing the authority, character, and position of Almighty God upon His SERVANT, Jesus) and My glory will I not give to another, (Speaking of Yahweh giving His glory ONLY to His ELECT) neither My praise to graven images. 

Isaiah 42:9.  Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth, I tell you of them.”

 

God prophesied to do NEW THINGS. And one of those NEW things Yahweh prophesied was to beget Himself a Son, His FIRSTBORN Son, whom he would EXALT to be higher that the kings of the earth. And another NEW THING that God prophesied is that His Son would join Him to sit at His right hand on His father’s throne.
